For the third consecutive year, Chris Pfeiffer on his BMW F 800 R claimed the Indoor World Cup, which was decided at the the Swiss-Moto Exhibition in Zurich on Sunday 22, February 2009. In second and third places, two Hungarians: Balasz Herzceg and Zoltan Angyal.
The reigning double world champion and title defender Chris Pfeiffer was favourite again, but a debilitating flu made the first day of training agony: he spent more time on the toilet than on his motorcycle. At that time, even for him to participate was in question. As the training showed, the competition from Europe and overseas had really increased/improved, so an easy title defence for Pfeiffer was in doubt. Chris Pfeiffer, Street Bike Freestyle World Champion recently attended the Milan motorcycle event, Eicma, to present the new BMW Motorrad naked, F800 R Chris Pfeiffer Edition.
The F800 R was shown at the BMW stand in the new livery, the same as that used by Chris in his show at the Motolive square. The white, blue and red colours include the seat cover and front mudguard, with the tank autographed by Pfeiffer and an Akrapovic exhaust.
Like the production series model, this edition is equipped with the parallel twin cylinder, that has a power of 87hp and torque of 86 Nm. The dry weight is relatively contained at 177 kg and the suspension has been studied to give perfect handling. Hendrik von Kuenheim, BMW Motorrad President, has declared that BMW is evaluating the possibility of commercialising the bike with the new livery, next year.
MotorcycleUsa site has been indulging in some gossip on possible new models from the German company. The American site has been even talking of a new F800R, in addition to an updated version of the F800S.
The F800R would be similar in appearance to the F800 special, used by Chris Pfeiffer. We hardly made it in time to check out the site named (www.motorrad-augsburg.de), when three photos arrived that you can see in the gallery.
Given that the photos seem real, three colours at least look likely for this new BMW naked - white, grey and orange. What do you think?
From the 4th to the 6th of July at Garmisch-Partenkirchen the new BMW Days event will take place. BMW Motorrad is ready to welcome riders of friends of the world of two wheels in a festival which should about 34,000 visitors.
Music, concerts and partying are the centrepieces of this event. In addition there will be the opportunity to tour this lovely German region and this year there is also a special tour open only to women, with female tour leaders.
In the events area there will be an off-road track of 10,000 square metres and the R 1200 GS will be available for whoever wants to participate. Something really not to be missed is the Chris Pfeiffer show, world champion stunt man.
