Here’s the Ducati Desmosedici RR vs the Ferrari F430 Scuderia in a track race from the guys at MCN. While it could be considered another gratuitous test of the age-old car vs bike debate, but this time the guys have gone up market and are indulging in two of the best road machines out there, regardless of number of wheels.
This Desmosedici RR is road replica of Loris Capirossi’s 2006 bike, with full carbon-fibre fairing, Marchesini wheels and racing tyres, and 203 hp. It’s up against the 510 hp of the Ferrari Scuderia. Check it out in the video.
Ducati has prepared this one-off special edition Desmosedici RR for the G8 summit in the earthquake stricken town of Aquila, in Italy’s Abruzzo region. The Desmosedici RR special livery has been created by Ducati and Fiera Milano, on suggestion from Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi.
The Ducati Desmosedici RR was itself a limited production run of just 1,500 models, making it one of the most prestigious bikes Ducati has ever built. If you’re desperate to get your hands on it, the bike will be auctioned at the next EICMA show in Milan. Have a look at this small gallery of the special edition Desmosedici RR and the details from Ducati after the jump.

If you could think of the fatest road bike on record, it probably wouldn’t take much to come up with the Ducati Desmosedici RR. Such that New Zealand businessman, Paul Heard, has decided to beat 311km/hr in the seat of the lovely Borgo Panigale gem.
He won’t just be doing it on an anonymous highway in New Zealand though, as riding a Desmosedici RR takes style; and so Heard and his team have organised a world tour for the effort.
The trip will depart from Featherston in South Wairarapa on November 9, where the first attempt will take place, to then travel to Dubai, Bahrain, and South Africa. After a stop back in New Zealand in December, Heard will continue in 2009 until the Speedweek in August at Bonneville. The stops will see our protagonist attempt to break each national speed record, and an overall world record.
As Heard says: “I will use the Ducati around the world to beat the 1000cc class speed records, and I hope to beat 311km/hr which is the current world record for this kind of bike. If everything goes according to plan, by next August I will have achieved at the speed record in at least 10 different countries.”
An ambitious plan!

As the battle between Rossi and Stoner continues, we should remember it’s hard to race against Valentino. Stoner won the fight against Rossi last year, the package from Ducati was very strong with the Desmosedici, the Bridgestone tyres and the rider, Casey Stoner. But it’s not easy to fight against a seven times Italian World Champion. Don’t forget the way Sete Gibernau and Max Biaggi have tried before to win and they lost. Not only because of the package from Valentino, also because of the smile on Rossi’s face, the way he can handle the media and all the fans in the world.
Dani Pedrosa will ride next round also with the Bridgestone tyres and we are all excited about it. Dani’s test run on the Bridgestones last week was good, he was fast. But Rossi comments and warns Dani to be patient and careful.
Casey is not thinking anymore about this year, he’s looking at next year. If next year only one tyre brand will be used, the advantage for the 2008 Bridgestone riders could be less. The only advantage is the telemetry, the information they are getting in this year’s competition on every racetrack.
The other question is all about safety, called: corner speed. What changes will be made? And how will best engineers will find again the solution to increase it?

Here are some photos of a gorgeous Ducati Desmosedici RR taken by our reader Shell, with a cell phone on the “Bocca Serriola”, at Città di Castello near Perugia.

This Desmosedici RR, with a few aesthetic modifications, has been spotted cruising Paris. We quite like the racing colours and the tri-colour livery. What do you think?

Another test for the Ducati MotoGP Team, with Sete Gibernau, Vittoriano Guareschi and Niccola Canepa finishing their latest test session on the Italian Mugello. The Spanish Sete Gibernau was for the third time testing with the Ducati Desmosedici at this two-day test session. Sete was lapping a good, consistent 1′50″5 using race-tyres and was able to set a fastest lap time from 1′48″9 with qualifying tyres under difficult weather conditions.
A smiling Gibernau at the end of the two-days, was very happy to ride Ducati again! Vittoriano and Niccola will still test tomorrow on race simulation.
Look at the picture from Sete in 2006!

Our reader Damned Throttle gave us the tip of this strange auction on Ebay that you can find here. It’s oh-so-rare but at this auction, you can buy the Desmosedici RR which we recently talked about as appealing to the rich and famous, particularly in the US market.
It’s a big opportunity for whoever wants this little gem and didn’t manage to get hold of one of the 1000 sold. The seller has also made a declaration which should put you in no doubt that this is actually real:
“I sell road Ducati Desmosedici, I’ve got more than one and so don’t wait. This is a serious auction so don’t stress me out - whoever wants the bike can get in touch. I offer seriousness and I expect it in kind.”
There is even a phone number, though we’ll just mention that dreams can be costly and this model is up for sale at 65,000 euros compared to the original 55,000 of the official Ducati price.
Ducati in America has always been somewhat of a legend, although recently it’s passed from legend status to some serious sales for Ducati North America. We can add this Desmosedici RR for Jay Leno to the list. The historic tv show host and US comedian is lucky to have a collection of Ducati’s and this delivery in the US took place at Ducati headquarters with the presence of CEO Michael Lock.
The video shows a presentation of the bike, followed by a road test by the lucky owner, who adds it to his extensive collection, the last model of which was a 1985 Hailwood replica. He figured after 23 years it was time to get another one - you just can’t help bad luck can you?!

Amongst all the tests done by the riders of MCN, for us, this video particularly stood out. On the seat of a Ducati Desmosedici RR, a “MotoGP replica”, the rider takes the red machine to its highest speed along a length of asphalt in the Elvington countryside.
The four cylinder, 989 cubic centimetre sound is music to our ears! “Easy to rider, incredible balance even in the most difficult parts.” Damn, we’re jealous!
Our reader Cheyenne indicated this video to us, dedicated to the the Ducati Desmosedici RR, the incredible road version of the company’s MotoGP. The video is a declaration of love for the Ducati, and refers to the arrival of the first Desmosedici RR in the US, which you can also see in our gallery.
The video shows the great, memorable moment of the lucky RR owner. Apart from the lovely red of the bike, it also includes an attractive brunette. Check out the video here.
