By Toni M.

ducati riddim cd

Ducati motorcycles have a particular sound, and in this case their name and the Hypermotard are associated with the cover of the album Ducati Riddim, which no doubt will make the Italian manufacturer happy as they get a free marketing plug.

The album released in December 2010 by Black Street Music and distributed by 21st Hapilos features various artists of the dancehall genre, and after the jump you can listen to one of the songs from the album.

Ducati presents 2012 upgrades for Multistrada and Hypermotard

By Adrian

Ducati Multistrada 1200 S Touring e Hypermotard SP 2012

Just few weeks before the opening of the Milan International Motorcycle Exhibition (EICMA) and right after the presentation of the new Streetfighter 848 and the announcement of the arrival of the 1199 Panigale, Ducati released more information about its 2012 line-up. The models that will be affected the most by this new wave of upgrades will be the Multistrada 1200 S Touring and the Hypermotard SP.

The Multistada 1200 S Touring will adopt a new color scheme, called Race Titanium Black, in place the old black one. This new graphic scheme - whose most notable feature is the “racing black”-painted frame - is already available for order alongside the old red and white options. Besides, the whole Multistrada 1200 range will use a new saddle, more comfortable and slightly longer than the current one. The Multistrada line-up for 2012 will then be the following: Multistrada 1200, Multistrada 1200 S Sport, the exclusive Multistrada 1200 S Sport “Pikes Peak Special Edition” and Multistrada 1200 S Touring.

As for the Hypermotard 1100 EVO SP, in 2012 it will be available only in its “Corse Edition” version. In comparison to the classic model, the “Corse Edition” features increased ride height, premium suspension, higher handlebar and lower weight, all of which obviously adds up to Hypermotard 1100 EVO’s reputation for being an extremely sporty and original motorcycle.

Futhermore, the new Monster 795 will be unveiled at the next MotoGP round in Malaysia. This new rendition of the most iconic Ducati model was specifically designed and developed for the Asian markets, and will be sold in Asia only.

Ducati custom: Hypermotard Diavolo Nero Special Black

By Alison

Hypermotard Diavolo Nero Black Evo 977

It takes some dreaming, time and a little extra cash to create your very own custom bike, but that’s exactly what Marte977 has done with his creation: the Hypermotard Diavolo Nero Special Black Evo 977. The Ducati Hypermotard-based special was used for its characteristic design and the way it adapts itself to customisation. Marte977 says:

Everything started from the idea of personalising my own bike and making it unique. I already had the extreme and characteristic bike itself, with its aggressive and edgy lines, and I wanted to highlight its shape - making it more extreme. But I also wanted to stay true to the original Ducati concept of a unique, slim and elegant bike, but with a nasty side.

With this in mind, the first step to creating the Black Hy (my black Hypermotard) was to change the rear - making it lighter and much shorter. Using ideas from other bikes, I put a brutale tail on my hyper, and I created LED lights under the other rear-end lights. With these changes to the rear, I then needed a different exhaust, one which was low and compact and which didn’t exist for the Hypermotard.

Ducati Hypermotard in Hawaii Five-O

By Toni M.

Ducati Hypermotard

The Ducati Hypermotard got a great plug in TV show Hawaii Five-O’s episode 13 called Ke Kinohi, where Steve McGarrett played by sexy Aussie actor Alex O’Loughlin, says, “You know something I’ve always wanted to ride one of these things” grabs the bike smashes through the doors, up a ramp of stairs into a club full of Yakuza’s.

While the scene was probably pulled off by a stunt rider, O’Loughlin is an avid rider who owns and works on his own bike with a little help from Cro Customs Cycles.

We wonder if Chin Ho Kelly (Daniel Dae Kim) will be trading in his HD for a Ducati Diavel very soon, now that would be a big marketing coup for the Italian manufacturer.

NCR Leggera more pics

By Alison

NCR Leggera 2010

Here are more pics of the NCR Leggera model - described as the world’s lightest hypermotard with a price tag to match. The Leggera has been built off the Ducati Hypermotard and includes a swathe of titanium parts. It’s NCR’s first street legal bike although don’t expect to see many of these on the streets. We would love to see this in a racing context though, as at just 157 kg, it could be quite something to see.

For those wanting an even more extreme version, NCR also offers a tuning kit for the engine components that further reduces the bike’s weight by 19 kg. For all the technical details, check out our original post on the NCR Leggera.

NCR Leggera: superlight, street-legal Hypermotard

By Alison

NCR Leggera Special hypermotard

This NCR Leggera 1200 Special is reportedly the lightest hypermotard ever made, using mostly titanium parts, and is also NCR’s first street legal bike. The Ducati Hypermotard it’s based on has been reduced by a full 57kg, and has even gained power in the process, up by 20 hp.

The 1100 Hypermotard has undergone modifications to most of its components, with the large majority of parts and the whole frame made from titanium. There is a ceramic-carbon front brake and the carbon fibre bodywork and wheels add to the weight reduction. Engine modifications include more titanium for the valves, magnesium engine covers, NCR race cams, and bigger bore cylinders making for 110 hp.

The minimalist, lightweight bike is pricey, coming in at £87,800 for the UK, although it’s on the NCR site at 76,000 USD. Which is basically in inverse proportion to its 157 kg weight. A full engine performance kit from NCR Corse is also available with 132 hp on a bike weighing just 135 kg. Specs and more details after the jump.

Moto Guzzi Griso and Ducati Hypermotard design concepts

Griso and Hypermotard design concepts

Italian motorcycle design just got a touch of new talent with students from the IED design institute creating these designs based on the Moto Guzzi Griso and the Ducati Hypermotard. The Griso is a splendid bike but in this revolutionary design it’s almost unrecognisable. The design brief in this case was to change only the upper structures and fairing, which also applied to the Ducati Hypermotard project.

The nine students in their second year at the European design institute had carte blanche to do as they liked to two bikes provided. The bikes had no seat, fairings, fuel tank or exhaust. The designs produced seem to have extended the bikes charisma and are certainly worthy of the label of exciting design.

The Griso, an example of Moto Guzzi’s characteristic retro style, gets catapulted into the future with angular looks, a redesigned aerodynamic but chunky front, and a strong rear look. Knowing it’s a Griso you can still see the original under the fairings, but otherwise it’s well disguised and we’re quite taken with it, particularly from a front-on view.

Only Ducati Hypermotards Used in Knight and Day Movie

By Toni M.

ducati/aprilia tom cruise

When eagle eyed Wes Siler from Hell for Leather caught out that the Ducati Hypermotard that Tom Cruise was riding in Knight and Day was actually an Aprilia, everyone picked up on this juicy little faux pas.

Obviously this didn’t go down well with the Italian manufacturer, because they are now reporting that all the bikes used in the movie are in fact Hypermotards and that that the ‘Faux-cati’ as Autoblog.com calls it, was created for as ESPN promotion.

Now Ducati only has to explain why the Knight and Day crew decided they actually needed an Aprilia dressed up as Hypermotard to do a promo.

When a Ducati isn't a Ducati

By Toni M.

ducati aprilia

You’ve got to have more tha 20/20 vision to catch all the differences, but what Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz are riding in the movie Knight and Day, that hit the movie theaters yesterday in the USA (and in Europe between July and September) isn’t Ducati Hypermotard, but an Aprilia SXV550, and if you squint your eyes you can see the name Aprilia on the engine block.

Actually they seem to be using both bikes as props in the movie. The Aprilia concealed as Hypermotard is for the action and stunt shots, because it’s lighter and much more versatile, while the real Hypermotard, which is heavier and principally a road bike is used for close-ups and slow riding footage.

After the jump you’ll find the official movie trailer and a couple of behind the scenes action clips from filming in Spain.

Ducati Hypermotard and Superbike backstage video

By Alison

See the Ducati Superbike on track behind the scenes, and the Ducati Hypermotard in Milan’s urban landscape. The two videos are both very interesting, and different from each other, and they show how much work goes into producing the finished product promo videos we see. While there’s the excitement of the Superbike on the track, I love the variability of the Hypermotard video and the urban setting. See behind the scenes for the Superbike above and the Hypermotard after the jump.

Ducati 1098 vs Nissan GT-R Skyline

By Alison

After the defeat of a Ducati Hypermotard by the Caterham R500, the guys at Autocar have decided to up the ante, and pit a Ducati 1098 against a Nissan GT-R Skyline. The 1098 S has about 150 hp and weighs approximately 180 kg. It competes against the GT-R with 473 hp and a better power to weight ratio. Check out the video for another motorcycle-car track challenge.
