They're calling it WHAT?! Mega Monster becomes Ducati Diavel

By Alison

mega monster

The new Ducati model which has so far been dubbed the Vyper and Mega Monster, will in fact be called the Ducati Diavel, according to MCN. And no, we don’t like the name. Where you put the accent for a start, we’re not clear (DiAvel, DiavEl…?). Apparently the name is from the Bologna dialect and obviously means ‘devil’.

So far Ducati has registered the name not just for its new muscle bike, but also the full accessories and clothing range that will appear with the new motorcycle. After all, no-one expects Ducati to sell just bikes these days, do they? The name might work well in Italy, but we have our doubts about it catching on in the English-speaking world.

But it might all come down to just how good the bike itself is. Designed to be a kind of Ducati cruiser, so far we know that it will possibly be equipped with the Testastretta 11° engine currently being used on the Multistrada 1200 S. We could also get a range of technology including ride by wire, traction control and ABS. Will it all save the name…?

Good Shot of Ducati's Mega Monster

By Toni M.

mega monster

Italy’s Motosprint website has pubblished another shot of Ducati’s new muscle bike and inside this week’s issue they’ve got another three excellent pics (not the usual spy shots, so eat your hearts out) of what’s being called the Mega Monster or Vyper.

According to Motosprint’s article the Mega Monster should be equipped with Ducati’s Testastretta 11° engine that is already be used on the Multistrada 1200 S and they are expecting ride by wire, traction control and ABS to ensure the highest safety standards on the road.

Expect more details and pics to be leaked before the bike’s launch at the EICMA show later this year.

New Ducati 848 Evo track bike at Laguna Seca MotoGP

By Alison

Ducati 848 Evo

The new Ducati 848 EVO will be presented at the Laguna Seca MotoGP this weekend. After speculation over whether it would be a preview of the Mega Monster (more likely to be revealed at the 2010 EICMA), a more road-oriented Multistrada 1200 or another beast for the track, it seems the latter has won.

The Evo tag indicates a track bike which should have 140hp, new fuel injection and electronics systems, monobloc Brembo callipers and new steering dampers while using the Testastretta Evoluzione engine. It apparently weighs in at 168 kg. We still have no idea who the four secret guests will be at the Laguna Seca presentation but we should think a few of Ducati’s famous names in racing and maybe a couple of celebrities might turn up. We’re more interested in the bike, to be honest.

More spy shots of Ducati's new Mega Monster

By Toni M.

Ducati 12oo

MCN and motociclismo.it have captured more spy shots of Ducati’s new Mega Monster near the Italian factory in Bologna.

The first shots that revealed that the bike was already in the works were taken by a reader of Motoblog, but these latest shots give a much better look see at what we’ll be seeing ahead of it’s official launch the EICMA show in November.

According to MCN the bike is 150+ bhp 1200cc V-twin and it’s supposed to have the performance of a superbike. While the bike may be very appetizing to the American market, convincing very snobbish Italian customers that this bike is the future is going to be a tough nut to crack, considering what we already read on Italian forums after the first pics came out.

Ducati Mega Monster

By Toni M.

ducati vyper

We sure would like to know who MCN’s mole is inside Ducati’s R&D department in Borgo Panigale is, because this spy shot they’ve taken is supposedly the maquette of the Ducati Vyper performance cruiser or as the Italians call it the Ducati Mega Monster.

The fact that Ducati is looking into the roadster market is significant and could mean they are actually looking into a new and totally different generation of buyers and try to steal them away from the V-Max or the V-Rod crowd, with the mystique and exclusiveness that the name Ducati carries with it, and this would be a first for them, if this cruiser ever comes to being.

At the moment the clay model has the classic Ducati trellis frame, a Monster first series tank and tail and it seems a single swingarm, but models like these are made up and thrown away at least a dozen of times a year, so we’ll just have to wait and see what the final result could be.
