By Toni M.

Marc Marquez’ double-vision problems has yet to clear up. The 2011 Moto2 World Championship runner-up had to miss the final two races of the season and concede the Moto2 title to Stefan Bradl, has not recovered in time to take part in this week’s Moto2 three day test at Jerez de la Frontera.

A medical check-up last Thursday by Dr. Jordi Arruga, a neuro-ophtalmologist at the Instituto Catalán de la Retina in Barcelona, confirmed that Marquez’ eyesight has improved but the problem hasn’t totally cleared up enough for him to ride safely.

“As the doctors said we cannot estimate how much time Marc will need to be completely recovered, although the evolution of the injury has been positive, as Dr. Arruga informed us. So right now we need to be patient,”said team manager Emilio Alzamora.

Marc Marquez to stay in Moto2 in 2012

By Toni M.

marc marquez

Marc Marquez will be staying in Moto2 for another season. The rumors that he would be switching to MotoGP in 2012 in these last couple of months have finally been laid to rest as Emilio Alzamora and Marquez informed the press that he’ll be staying in Moto2 for another season, allowing the 18-year old Spanish sensation another year of experience.

“I’m only 18 and need to gain more experience first. There is no pressure on me for title this year now I know I have another year,” said Marquez.

Repsol and Honda are carefully grooming Marquez for the big jump, but it will be in a factory team and bike in 2013 and we bet that the rookie rule will be dropped under pressure from the two giants when Marquez could be ready to take away Dani Pedrosa’s long standing place in the team.

Marc Marquez in MotoGP? Future plans to be revealed at Sepang

By Toni M.

marc marquez

Team CatalunyaCaixa Repsol’s team manager Emilio Alzamora has continually denied that his Moto2 star Marc Marquez will not be moving to MotoGP next season, however over the past few races there has been a certain change of stance on the matter and, Marc Martin who follows the GP championship for TVE Spanish television tweeted today that Marquez and his team will be holding an important press conference next Friday, ahead of the penultimate round of the season at Sepang, where Marquez will officially reveal his 2012 plans.

Speculation is rife, with some saying that since Andrea Dovizioso signed a deal with Yamaha Tech3 and left an a RC213V available in Lucio Cecchinello’s LCR Honda squad, Marquez could end up there with full factory support under the watchful eye of Monlau Competicion or Alzamora could field his own MotoGP team, something similar to the Nastro Azzurro team which saw Valentino Rossi’s debut in the top class, in order to get Marquez around the unpopular rookie rule.

We won’t have to wait long, because Friday the 21st is just around the corner and we’ll keep you posted. Whatever Marquez’ future plans will be, Repsol had already programmed that he would get a chance to try out a Honda GP bike during the official post season test at Valencia.

The 17-year-old has decided to stay with his mentor Emilio Alzamora after receiving several Moto2 offers, but Alzamora has decided to field a single rider team and concentrate his efforts on the Catalan champion. It’s expected that Marquez be using a Moriwaki, after considering both the Suter and FTR chassis, and the team will have the backing of big name sponsors, Red Bull and Repsol.

Dakota Mamola wins his first race

By Toni M.

Dakota Mamola

It can’t be easy being the son of what the world once considered the most exciting and charismatic Grand Prix motorcycle racers of his generation, but Dakota Mamola, the 15-year-old son of four-time 500cc World Championship runner-up Randy Mamola, is trying to live up to his famous name and on Sunday took his first ever win.

In the final round of the Metrakit 125cc Pre-GP Campeonato Mediteraneo de Velocidad (Mediterranean Championship) at Valencia, the red headed youngster who looks like Bradley Smith’s kid brother was 17th on a grid of 42 riders, took off like a rocket and found himself fifth at the first corner and despite rain swept conditions managed to take his first win.

Riding for the Monlau Team run by Emilio Alzamora, the former 125cc World Champion, Mamola junior races in two different championships. Dakota also saw the podium when he finished third last March in the Pre-125 class of the Campionats de Catalunya de Motociclisme at the Catalunya circuit.

Dakota who speaks English, French, Spanish and Catalan (how many 15 year olds do you know that speak four languages) is sponsored by Monster Energy, Arai helmets, and Alpinestars leathers.

Another kid is going to try to follow in his dad’s footsteps and this time it’s Dakota Mamola, son of former Gran Prix rider and commentator Randy Mamola.

Dakota, a red headed kid with braces on his teeth will ride with team Monlau under the guidance of Emilio Alzamora, the 1999 125cc World Champion. The Monlau team is a company that trains and encourages young and talented riders and also mechanics who start from the basics and aim for the Grand Prix series.

Dakota will be racing in the Campeonato Mediterráneo de Velocidad (CMV) in the Pre-125GP category.

The track record of the program is proven by the fact that Marc Marquez will be riding his second season in the 125cc World Championship.
