Red Bull X-Fighters scenes from Rome: Nate Adams wins

By Alison

US freestyle rider Nate Adams has won the Red Bull X-Fighters Rome stop, cementing his first place in the overall classification. He was followed on the podium by Andre Villa in second place and Josh Sheehan in third place. The riders will now go on to compete in Spain, Poland and Australia and there’s no doubt that the international following of this sport is increasing. Rome itself offers the biggest track of all the stops in the X-Fighters tour, and managed to build three consecutive large jumps for this year’s round. Check out the Red Bull X-Fighters video above with Nate Adams, and pics below.

Vespa stunts: pics and video from Nicola Campobbasso

By Alison

Vespa stunts by Nicola Campobbasso

The Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour finished last Saturday in Rome and the Italians pulled Nicola Campobbasso out of their bag of tricks for the day. Nicola is also known as the ‘impennatore’ or ‘wheeler’ in the sense of one-wheel stunts, and is particularly famous for the kind of Vespa stunts he can pull off on his bike. The photo above is definitely worth a photo of the day status.

Nicola was out to entertain the crowds with a few wheelies and some stunts with both wheels on the ground, but as it seems he’s capable of more, he let his imagination do the rest. After the jump is a video of the highlights of the final round of the world freestyle championships. We don’t actually get to see Nicola but for the rest…. did we mention the words show ponies?

Video: Julien Dupont rides Lyon

By Alison

Freestyle urban trial champion Julien Dupont rides the streetscapes of Lyon in this video from 2007. We don’t always like to harp on about safety but this is another of those “don’t try this in your town” videos.

Red Bull X-Fighters Recharges Battersea Power Station

A surge of energy will bring Battersea Power Station to life on 22 August 2009 as the dramatic setting is transformed to play host to the Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour finale. Twelve of the world’s best Freestyle Motocross (FMX) riders will descend on the British capital to thrill a 17,000-strong crowd as they perform gravity-defying tricks to battle it out for the world title in front of the famous white chimneys.

A double first: not only is it the first time Red Bull X-Fighters has touched down in the UK, it’s also the first time that both the inside and outside of Battersea Power Station will be used as part of the set to entertain the general public.

Red Bull X-Fighters is a high-energy spectacle in which riders on motorbikes combine power, skill, showmanship and bravery to excite fans. The World Tour has garnered a huge international following since its conception in 2001 with jumps and tricks getting harder, higher and longer every year – often reaching heights of 40 feet.

In 2008, 170,000 spectators saw the Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour climb to new heights with spectacular contests in the bull fighting arenas of Mexico City and Madrid, the stone quarry of Wuppertal in Germany, the Sambadrome parade ground in Rio de Janeiro, a rodeo arena in Texas and a gigantic historic stadium in Warsaw – which was brought back to life for a day before it was then taken down by the wrecking ball.

The 2009 calendar is no less impressive and before making its debut in London, the series will have already touched down in Mexico City (Mexico), Calgary (Canada), Fort Worth (Texas, USA) and Madrid (Spain).

Sally Chatterjee, Interim Chief Executive, Visit London says: “Red Bull has a history of creating innovative and highly entertaining events that make the most of London’s unique landscape. As such I’m delighted Red Bull X-Fighters has chosen the iconic Battersea Power Station to host the final of its World Tour. The Power Station is a spectacular urban venue and will serve as an incredible backdrop for thousands of people to enjoy such a dynamic show.”

Tickets will be on sale from 1st June and range between £20-45, for more information visit www.redbullxfighters.com and for information on accommodation, restaurants and other activities for a London stay, visit event partner www.visitlondon.com

Ronnie Renner sets Guinness World Record in Chicago

By Toni M.

Ronnie Renner does it again and breaks his own Guinness World Record for the highest motorcycle jump off a quarterpipe.

During the Red Bull High Rise event in Chicago on Saturday, Renner, a professional freestyle motocross athlete launched himself 63 feet, 5 inches above ground, eclipsing the world record he set last year.

“It’s been crazy. I’m so pumped to have done it,” Renner said afterward. “What a killer vibe! All these people coming out to see me and they were psyched. I could hear the crowd cheering.”

Guinness World Records certified Renner’s highest jump, which was officially measured from the top of the 22-foot quarterpipe wall as 41 feet, 5 inches from the top of the ramp. That placed him 63 feet, 5 inches above ground.

After our tiny jump, check out Renner’s 2008 world record video, where he did 59′2″ above the ground on the Santa Monica Pier.

Red Bull two wheels battle video

Red Bull two wheels battle gallery

By Alison

Alvaro dal Farra vs Ivan Lazzarini nella Red Bull Battle on 2 wheels

This gallery comes from the Red Bull battle on two wheels challenge between Alvaro dal Farra, famous Italian freestyler, and Ivan Lazzarini, Italian Supermotard Champion. A program was set for the riders to challenge each other in the different disciplines, after previous meetings in the Red Bull Ape Race and the Red Bull X-Kart Race.

Freestyler Alvaro has generally had the upper hand, and so Ivan had a new challenge on the supermotard circuit, lapping Alvaro more than once.

But the foam pit was the breaking point for Ivan who, after years of supermotard racing, couldn’t get the right position to lean backwards and close a back flip. Both riders apparently had a lot of fun learning new things, but there’s something about old dogs and new tricks, particularly when we’re talking slides and backflips.

Travis Pastrana: "199 Lives" (he needs them all!)

By Alison

You don’t need to watch the whole video to know why this is called “199 Lives” - a documentary of pure adrenalin dedicated to Travis Pastrana. The opening scene is of Pastrana sky diving pratically naked with the voice over: “My name’s Travis Pastrana and I calculate risk for a living”. Do we think he’s crazy? You bet we do! But still, he will remain one of the greatest freestylers ever. Enjoy the opening to the Pastrana documentary video.

Video: FMX rider tests ToyDirtBikes

By koen

Chaos FMX rider William Van den Putte is testing the ToyDirtBikes for Belgian television in this you tube video. Can William, a freestyle motorcross rider, play this toy like he’sriding his real bike?

Freestyle or FMX is a strong, growing sport. It comes originally from motorcross when the riders started to show some stunts and tricks after the finish, like the “No foot One Hander”, the “No hander Lander” and some other dangerous jumps. It’s based on high jumps with the bike and making figures in the air. Some good advice? Try it with the toy, not for real!

Motorcycle stunts: Ronnie Renner achieves highest motorcycle jump in the world

By Alison

This time maybe even Freestyle legend Travis Pastrana was left with his mouth open after seeing this video. This is real heart-in-your-mouth stuff by Ronnie Renner, at Santa Monica, who broke the record for the highest motorcycle jump in the world, reaching 59.2 feet, or 18.044 metres.

The 20,000 fans at the Red Bull Experiment couldn’t believe it. This height has never before been achieved, and Red Bull is obviously cementing its place in the world of extreme sports where Freestyle has brought some unexpected success.

Renner had planned five jumps, but after reaching 54.7 feet, decided to go for a final jump, which has now entered the Guinness book of recods. He said “It was perfect, and I still can’t believe I jumped so high. It doesn’t seem real that so many fans came here to support me. I tried the final jump for them - it was everything or nothing. And I did it.”
