Moto2 - Gabor Talmacsi with Speedup Team?

By Toni M.

gabor talmacsi

Apparently Honda is not happy seeing one of their MotoGP bikes always arrive last on the grid and Gabor Talmacsi lack of competitiveness so HRC has vetoed any contract renewal between Talmacsi and Scot Racing.

Talmacsi made a surprise move to MotoGP after splitting up with Aspar Martinez Balatonring 250cc team after just three threes over image rights. The Hungarian rider backed by MOL, a Hungarian oil company debuted with Scot Racing at the sixth round of championship riding Yuki Takahashi’s spare bike.

It took exactly two races before Takahashi got the axe from the team, who preferred Talmacsi with his petroleum money lined leathers. The rider is currently 17th in the standings with 17 points.

Talmacsi now seems to be headed lock, stock and sponsor to Moto2 with Luca Boscoscuro’s Speedup Team alongside 125cc rider Andrea Iannone who has already signed with the new squad.

This could leave the last remaining MotoGP ride open to Alex DeAngelis. The Sammarinese rider is still working on getting sponsorship money from his government and Dorna could have an all Republic of San Marino team on the grid, as Cirano Mularoni’s Scot Racing is based in the tiny country.

Gabor Talmacsi in 12h Car Endurance Race

By Toni M.

Gabor Talmacsi

While 3 times World Superbike Champion Troy Bayliss was crashing at the Bathurst 1000, MotoGP rider Gabor Talmacsi was driving in the 2nd edition of the Hungary 12-hour Endurance Race at the Hungaroring race track, taking a first and second place.

This was Talmacsi second outing in a car endurance race, having already taken part in the Dubai 24 hour race in 2007. The rider turned driver spent a day getting reacquainted and testing the Brokernet Silver Sting car that he would be using in the race.

Talmacsi competing for the all Hungarian Bovi Motorsport Team with team mates Bódis Kálmán, Rácz István and Barta Attila, took first place in the ‘SP2’ category and were second overall against 38 other teams.

“It was a case of producing real teamwork, where everybody strived to give the maximum. It was a very hard and intense race to take part in. I’m glad to have been involved in this competition, but now I am concentrating solely on the Iveco Australian Grand Prix, because I need to show all my skill there to get a good result.”

Scot Racing Team has yet to announce their line-up for the 2010 season.

Jorge “Aspar” Martinez and Gábor Talmácsi held a press conference yesterday in Budapest to confirm that he and Talmácsi were unable to reach a common agreement on communication and media rights in Hungary that caused the Hungarian rider to pull out of the Le Mans race. The former 2007 125cc World Champion who won with Martinez will no longer ride with the Balatonring Team and is out of series and no other ride waiting for him.

Gabor Talmacsi pulls out of Le Mans and Splits with Aspar Martinez

By Toni M.

Talmacsi and Martinez

Former 2007 125cc world champion Gabor Talmacsi will not take part in the French Grand Prix that will be held in Le Mans this weekend following a split from the Aspar Aprilia team Jorge “Aspar” Martinez, after just three rounds of this year’s 250cc World Championship.

According to a statement released on Thursday by Talmacsi’s Italian manager Stefano Favaro:

“We have been working with the team of Jorge Martinez since the 2007 World Championship season and, I still say, it was one of our best decisions to sign the contract with the Aspar Team. The problems started when at the very beginning of this season the second motorbike turned out to be still missing. Then this problem with the second bike seemed to be solved as Mr Martinez together with the new supporters of the team – Grupo Milton and Logistic Land – promised to cover the missing sponsorship money, and the second motorbike would be at Talma’s disposal at Jerez. But nothing happened.”

Balatonring - First stone laid

By Toni M.

Hungarian circuit

The first stone of the new £50 million Balatonring circuit, which will host next year’s Hungarian Grand Prix was laid on the construction site near Savoly in Western Hungary on Thursday.

Among those attending the event was local star Gabor Talmacsi, together with team manager Jorge Martinez “Aspar” who was also one of the driving forces behind this project. “I think that it will be exciting to race here because, if you remember Brno, there were 30 to 40,000 people there with my national flag.” I’d like to try the track as soon as possible to gain an advantage, “said Talmacsi, who has quit 125 to move to the 250GP class in 2009.

The proceedings consisted of laying the first stone and burying a ‘time capsule’ containing mementos of the day and the Hungarian and Spanish flags. Also present was Carmelo Ezpeleta, Dorna Sports CEO who commented: “Since we first spoke with the Hungarian government and all the represtatives of the project, we have realized that this is a very important for both them and ourselves. I´m sure that if the weather is OK the track can be finished on time and we can have a Hungarian Grand Prix on 20th September 2009.”

The Balatonring circuit will host MotoGP racing for the next five years starting from 2009.
