Videos: Valentino Rossi Lapping at Misano

By Toni M.

One of Valentino Rossi’s fans was able to get in at Misano, that supposedly was to be a private test closed to the public, instead got some pretty good footage of Rossi, using James Toseland’s YZF-R1 Superbike lapping the Italian track trying assess his fitness, just 32 days after he broke his right leg during free practice at the Mugello.

You have to admire Rossi’s cojones and the immense passion and dedication that the Italian is showing wanting to return as soon as possible to racing, however Graziano Rossi, Valentino’s father who is a former GP racer, speaking to the Gazzetta dello Sport after yesterday’s test has revealed that he’s asked his son not only to wait a little longer, but also suggested that he give up racing altogether.

“Frankly I’ve tried to tell him that perhaps it would be better to delay his return, maybe even until next season or even better to never come back,” said Graziano. “He looked at me and he simply told me that it’s not possible to leave bikes in this way.

Thank goodness for Valentino’s answer.

More from the Motocross dei Campioni (w/videos)

By Toni M.

We’ve got a couple more videos from the Motocross dei Campioni, 30 Years Later event. The one above is the most interesting because it’s a sort of backstage and Gianluca Alessandrini who made it, bled out all the colour and making it wobbly, a wink at the original Motocross dei Campioni event.

If you head over to Motosprint.it you can see a photo that hey pulled out of their archive of some of the original riders who partecipated in the first Motocross dei Campioni organized by Graziano Rossi thirty years ago.

Since the event was a huge success and everyone involved had a great time, Valentino Rossi will probably repeat it next year.

Graziano Rossi bins the Ouroboros Zaeta

By Toni M.

Graziano Rossi was showing off the new Ouroboros Zaeta for the guys over at MCN who wanted to interview ‘Grazia’ about this new dirt track bike that will probably have it’s racing debut at the European Short Track Championship next year.

They put an onboard camera on the Zaeta and caught Valentino’s old man binning the bike and according to MCN he did it another time, both times getting up uninjured. Not bad for a fifty-five year old ex racer.

More on the Ouroboros, it's called Zaeta

By Toni M.

graziano rossi

You may remember our post on Graziano Rossi and the Ouroboros, a new dirt track prototype bike that will be debuting shortly. Well lucky for us in this month’s August issue of Riders Italian Magazine there’s an interview with Graziano Rossi who talks about this new bike and his passion for drifting and riding sideways.

So here’s some of the low down gleaned from the article:

The bike’s name is Zaeta. Zaeta is the dialect name of a known yellow biscuit from Italy’s Veneto region.

Ouroboros is the name of the company chaired by Paolo Chiaia, official Italian importer of the Confederate. Chiaia after seeing a Short Track race at Daytona, fell in love with the series and wanted to try his hand in building a bike and when he met Graziano Rossi during last year’s Bologna Motorshow, the project officially took off.

Graziano Rossi to debut the Ouroboros?

By Toni M.

graziano rossi

Graziano Rossi had to give up professional motorcycle racing after a terrible accident that almost cost him his life during the Imola 200 miles, he then turned to rally racing and is a super fan of drifting with his Mustang, but he’s never really forgotten his love for two wheels.

Here’s “Grazia” as Valentino calls his father, on a new dirt bike prototye called the Ouroboros and apparently he’s going debut it in an upcoming dirt track race.

Interview with Valentino Rossi and his father: a family saga that's not so common

By Alison

rossifam

The name Rossi, in Italy, is a bit like Smith in English - a very common name that could trick you into thinking the people who carry it are very common people too. But in the case of Valentino Rossi and his family, things are seldom what they seem.

An exposé on Valentino Rossi from the monthly Riders magazine reveals there are enough differences between him and his father Graziano that you could write a book about them. The magazine’s August issue has dedicated a piece on the Rossi family that is unlike any other previously published.

The feature on Rossi and his father shows off a continual tit for tat between the two, including family stories and anecdotes about a young boy who felt too tall. Valentino, now a man, admits: “I would like to be a father. But I would like a girl rather than a boy. Why? I don’t know, I like the idea.”
