Griso and Hypermotard design concepts

Italian motorcycle design just got a touch of new talent with students from the IED design institute creating these designs based on the Moto Guzzi Griso and the Ducati Hypermotard. The Griso is a splendid bike but in this revolutionary design it’s almost unrecognisable. The design brief in this case was to change only the upper structures and fairing, which also applied to the Ducati Hypermotard project.

The nine students in their second year at the European design institute had carte blanche to do as they liked to two bikes provided. The bikes had no seat, fairings, fuel tank or exhaust. The designs produced seem to have extended the bikes charisma and are certainly worthy of the label of exciting design.

The Griso, an example of Moto Guzzi’s characteristic retro style, gets catapulted into the future with angular looks, a redesigned aerodynamic but chunky front, and a strong rear look. Knowing it’s a Griso you can still see the original under the fairings, but otherwise it’s well disguised and we’re quite taken with it, particularly from a front-on view.

Moto Guzzi Diamante combines Gilera CX125 and Griso 8V

By Alison

Guzzi Diamante by Filippo Barbacane

This is one seriously modified Moto Guzzi Griso 8V. Designer Filippo Barbacane (of Guzzi Ciclope fame) has taken the front end of a Gilera CX125, used bespoke bodywork and then managed to include the performance of the Griso 8V, while still managing its heavier weight.

The fuel tank has been moved to the rear subframe to make way for an airbox and top-mounted intake. The 1420cc engine with 140 hp now also has increased cooling capacity, and the exhaust has been mounted lower down. The name “Diamante” means diamond.

The engine tuning has been completed by the Millepercento company and while Barbacane will be producing only 30 of these, there are calls in the comments over on Hellforleather for Moto Guzzi to start a mass production run.

Test Moto Guzzi Griso 8V Special Edition 2009

This Griso will certainly have Guzzi fans enthusiastic over the 2009 offering as Moto Guzzi undertakes a strong brand relaunch, which sees the Griso as protagonist.

We have watched the new 2009 models from Moto Guzzi with interest, including the Nevada 750, V7 Cafè Classic and Griso 8V Special Edition, and we recently had the chance to take the new Griso for a test ride.

This new model perfectly unites history with innovation, showing that Moto Guzzi is keeping up with the times and creating charismatic bikes. The name “Griso” comes from a famous character in Italy’s canon text of “The Betrothed”, written by Manzoni who lived not far from Mandello, where Moto Guzzi has its factory.

Eicma 2008: Moto Guzzi news

By Alison

This video and brief interview was conducted by MotoTV at the Eicma show, and demonstrates some of the Moto Guzzi gems present at the event. Moto Guzzi went to Eicma with some special editions, described as feminine (or was he talking about the girls…?).

Moto Guzzi models on display included the V7 Cafe Classic, Griso 8V special edition and a Stelvio 1200. Described as “Italian creativity applied to a classic brand” and we would have to agree.

Moto Guzzi Stelvio 1200 4V

By Alison

The new Moto Guzzi Stelvio 1200 4V has been revealed in the historic Siena seat of Monte dei Paschi. The new Stelvio is Guzzi’s answer to recent releases from BMW. As discussed by CEO Tomasso Giocoladelli: “Guzzi can’t afford to be even a centimetre behind the competition. We can only grow if we offer the technological developments the market demands: entering in new segments is a compulsory choice.”

The Stelvio is arriving on the market after much news, including the Griso and the arrival of the “fourvalve” engine, latest evolution in the lengendary twin-cylinder V. The capacity is at 1151cc and compared to the Griso the main difference regards the new bigger, but lighter, exhaust system. The maximum power is 105 hp with a torque of 11 Kgm at 6,400 revs.

The 251 kg of the Moto Guzzi Stelvio 1200 4V reveal a strong bike but of an elegant and harmonious style. They’ve hit on the right colour - white chrome - popular these days. The starting price is at 12,990 euro. In the following extensive photo gallery, you can find the various colours and details of the dynamic bike.
