Honda EV-neo 2011

The city of Barcelona is lending itself to a special program of testing the use of electric scooters as the Honda EV-neo scooter gets out on European city streets. The urban electric scooter program will start in July 2011 and Honda will provide 18 EV-neo scooters for the year of the program.

The Honda EV-neo is equipped with a 2.8 kW electric motor driven by lithium ion batteries. It’s perfect for city centre use with an average range of 34 km and a speed of 34 km/hr (depending on conditions). Importantly, a full recharge takes just three-and-a-half hours and the battery pack has been designed to fit perfectly under the seat. A fast recharge unit can be used for a full recharge in just 30 minutes.

The project in Barcelona will involve monitoring the take-up and use of the Honda EV-neo in the city. It’s the first time the scooter has appeared on European shores and Barcelona has been chosen because the city has a number of different incentives for electric vehicle use. That, and the fact that 30 percent of vehicles on Barcelona streets are motorcycles. The Honda EV-neo was released in April this year and the company plans to sell about 1,000 units in its first at a price of 454,650 yen - equivalent to about 4,000 euros.

Yamaha Releases EC-03 Electric Scooter

By Toni M.

yamaha ec3

We first saw the Yamaha EC-03 concept at the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show (see video after the jump) now Yamaha will launch the e-scooter on September 1st in Toyko and a month later in the rest of Japan and then will start exports to Europe in 2011, but has no plans so far for the U.S.

This zero-emission e-moped is targeted for for city use and can travel 43 kilometers (26.6 miles) on a single six-hour charge from a household power outlet, however Yamaha has already said that 43km is in regular road conditions, but riders should not count on more than 25 km.

The EC-03 will probably find its biggest market in China, who already has an estimated 20 million electric bikes in use.

Japan’s biggest motorcycle manufacturer Honda, has already shown us the electric EV-neo, which will be leased for use in Japan and targeting exclusively delivery companies.

Honda EV-neo Electric Scooter to be Released in 2010

By Toni M.

“Quiet and clean” are the key words that Honda is using to promote their new EV-neo, an electric scooter with zero CO2 emissions, specifically designed for business use by delivery companies.

The Ev-neo was first seen as a concept at the 41st Tokyo Motor Show in 2009 as one of Honda’s new-generation personal mobility products.

The scooter is equipped with a lithium-ion battery manufactured by Toshiba and is rechargeable using a household power source and charged in approximately 4 hours (100V power source) with a cruising rance of 30 km (19 miles) on one charge

The mass-market model of EV-neo is currently under development and Honda plans to release the scooter in December 2010 and Japan will be the primary initial market, but with the vast Chinese market in its sight.
