Italian brand Aspes relaunches in 2010 with a hybrid scooter called the Sirio Hybrid 50. The company is famous for its 125 Yuma scooter in the past, which was a sought-after ride for young ones at the end of the 70’s and into the early 80’s. The company has since been bought by Menzaghi Motors which is focusing on distributing the hybrid scooter as part of the future of motoring.

The Sirio Hybrid 50 runs off LiFePO4 electric batteries, which can be recharged while being used, and a classic combustion motor. Commands on the handlebars mean the rider can choose between full use of the engine which then recharges the batteries, or the Mix Mode of combining the motor with electric power.

The electric batteries can push the scooter to 18 km/hr, “electric + 4T” goes to 30 km/hr, and above that figure the scooter runs off the combustion engine alone. There is also a fully electric mode, taking the mode choice to three for the scooter. No further news as to production or pricing details is available, but it will be interesting to see if anything else comes of the new Aspes initiative.

Orange County Choppers is producing a hybrid motorcycle in a deal with Schneider Electric. According to a statement the aim is to build a motorcycle “capable of traveling farther, without refueling or recharging, than any other OCC bike in history”. The move comes after OCC has already produced an electric chopper and so it seems we could be going eco in the chopper market of all sectors.

Schneider Electric will provide the components and technical knowledge to build the hybrid bike, which may have something like a parallel power train a bit like that originally used on the Toyota Prius hatchback car.

Apparently the hybrid chopper should be ready by the end of 2009, exclusively offered to contract partners who will get their own Orange County Chopper. Unfortunately there are no pics yet, but for more details, the press release is after the jump.

According to the Solomoto30 magazine, Piaggio’s three wheeled hybrid scooter, the MP3 Hybrid, will soon be ready for production.

The hybrid scooter was presented at the 2008 Eicma show in Milan and is equipped with two engines: a four stroke, Leader series endothermic engine with fuel injection system, and an electric motor.

The engines work together to create greater performance and reduce consumption. Pricing could be set at about 10,000 euros but no official information on this or a launch date is currently available.

In these pics you can see the hybrid, three-wheel scooter presented by Peugeot at the Eicma show. Models such as these could become a new alternative in urban, ecological vehicles.

The main characteristic of this scooter is the all-wheel drive on three wheels. The thermal 125cc engine has Satelis Compressor and produces 15kw (20hp) from the rear wheel.

There are two 3kw electric engines situated near the front wheels, which are equipped with lithium ion batteries that are rechargeable in deceleration. The cooperation between the two engines is electronically controlled by the “By Wire” system.

Piaggio has presented its new MP3 Hybrid at the motorcycle show, Eicma, in Milan. This is a special motorcycle equipped with a hybrid system, destined for the urban motorcycle market. With plenty of development and research going into alternative and ecological motorcycles, this important urban sector could soon see a revolution.

The MP3 Hybrid is not simply a scooter with two engines, but a new advanced system of integrated engineering of a thermal engine with low environmental impact, and a zero-emission electric engine.

Both the systems have positive aspects along with some faults that are often complementary. Combustion engines have better range and power but give off emissions, while electric engines are environmentally friendly, but have limited range and speed.

As seen at the Eicma show, Malaguti will have its hybrid scooter ready for 2009, a model that has been developed through Italian-Chinese collaboration and which became a truly specialised research project.

The project started in 2007 and had as its main objective, the commercialisation by 2010 of a vehicle with extremely low environmental impact, that could reduce emissions by more than 65 percent compared to current models.

Ecological matters are a recurring theme around the world and have a particular focus on the Asian continent where economic expansion and the rise of the middle class are rapidly increasing. The prototypes of this future scooter will be developed in two different versions: one for Europe and one for China.

Many manufacturies are searching, investigating and developing new bikes for the future. The government of China was able to ask Jamie Tomkins to come over and create his idea for the near future. After a trip to China and some research Jamie developed a hybrid bike, build from plastic and metal.

The plastic parts are removable and light. Also some store room is available on the bike. His idea in creating the bike was based on “the Beijing Boom Tower” the symbol of the three different social classes in China.
