L’ Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola has finally begun the much needed resurfacing.
Work on the famed 4.933km track started last week and is expected to be completed by the middle of August with the partial resurfacing finished in time for September, when racing activities will once again resume, and the highlight of the month will be the 11th round of the World Superbike championship, Sept. 23-25.
70% of the circuit will be resurfaced and the areas are highlighted in red on the above map.

The idea of Ducati pulling out their factory team from the World Superbike championship has not gone down well with Italian Ducatisti and they’ve put the blame of this decision squarely on the shoulders on Gabriele Del Torchio, Ducati’s CEO and especially on Valentino Rossi.
Del Torchio avidly chased after Valentino Rossi and finally bagged the Italian rider with a 2 year contract and the Ducatisti are convinced that the pull-out is to pay Rossi’s deal with Ducati’s MotoGP team and as a result there is no money left to pay for an official team in World Superbikes, despite reassurance from the CEO that this isn’t the case.
Still upset about the decision, several Ducatisti displayed this controversial banner yesterday at the Imola race track which reads: Ducati SBK, 46 reasons for the pull out.

Here’s a lovely gallery of the Aprilia RSV4 R track ride from the Imola Superbike round. The white RSV4 R can be seen in plenty of drifting and sliding, which is what we expect most of you will want to do if you get hands on one.
The guys from Motoblog.it will be testing the RSV4 R today on the Mugello circuit, and we expect it will be a very exciting test ride. The bike is available from the end of this month, and on the local market in Italy, it costs 16,000 euros.
Here’s the first part of our paddock girls gallery from Imola. Check out the ladies from Nurburgring, too and pick out your favourite.
These fantastic live pics from the Imola Superbike come from a lucky reader of Motoblog.it who certainly had a birds’ eye view of proceedings (and a very nice camera it seems). We’ll be posting a huge gallery of Imola pics later on, so stay tuned.
The new Aprilia RSV4 R 2010 presentation at Imola has taken place in occasion of the Imola superbike round. New pics of the RSV4 R are below, and some new details from the company have also been released.
The compact V4 engine also has Ride by Wire technology with Track, Sport and Road mapping. It has an aluminium chassis and adjustable suspension, and is a very nice looking machine that should be quite successful.
The Aprilia RSV4 R will be available on the Italian market starting from the end of October, at a price of about 16,000 euros. We should have more pics of the new Aprilia from the EICMA show in November.

Here are the complete official pics of the new Aprilia RSV4 R to be presented this weekend at Imola in one of the closing rounds of the 2009 WSBK.
The “R” version, in elegant white, will have a 43 mm Showa fork, while rear suspension has been entrusted to Sachs. This should provide a cheaper-spec bike, with the same engine, but that comes in at a lower price range.
The engine will still be that of the RSV4 Factory, the V4 with 180 hp and Ride-by-Wire system, though some modifications to both it and chassis will occur to further lower the price. The three settings of Race, Sport and Road will still be offered, in what’s going to be one very competitive sports bike. The Imola weekend can’t come around fast enough!

According to the well informed Motogpmatters website, John Hopkins may miss next week’s WSBK Brno round.
During the two day test at Imola, Hopkins preferred to to sit out Thursday’s afternoon session after he was advised not to ride by the staff of the Clinica mobile.
The Stiggy Honda rider was suffering from pain after the first day of testing and after riding in Thursday’s morning session and following a near crash was advised by the staff of the Clinica Mobile not to take part in the afternoon session.
X-Rays revealed no further damage had been done to his previously injured hip bone, but they did reveal that his bones were not developing calcium properly and his doctors in the US diagnosed osteoporosis after receiving the X rays by email.
Hopkins will undergo a further battery of tests that will probably include a Dexa (bone density scan) and a diagnosis of osteoporosis leaves some doubt if Hopkins will ride in Brno, because even a small crash could leave him with more broken bones.
The New Variante Bassa at the Autodromo Enzo and Dino Ferrari at Imola has come under stinging criticism by SST Alstare Suzuki rider Claudio Corti.
“The chicane is really s..tty. You arrive very fast, the entrance is flat and you can’t see the line. The race is going to be a mess, because the turn is so tight that only one rider at a time can pass, if you’re lucky …. Our bikes do it in first at about 45 km/h. They’ve ruined a piece of the circuit that was just fine before, and left the rest the same. The asphalt in the other turns is completely ruined, they should have resurfaced the track instead of fixing the garage complex.”
The New Variante Bassa situated half-way along the pit garages, and is made up of a sharp left-right designed and constructed in record time to meet FIM homologation, but at the present does not have a sufficient run off area. When the official SBK tests are concluded, the circuit fencing will be moved back another 100 metres, which will increase the run-off area by more than 3 metres.
After the jump yesterday’s Superstock test results:
