Although the Monster 1100 has been the protagonist for Ducati, at the Cologne Show Intermot 2008, the Ducati stand had plenty of other interesting initiatives to present. The exhibition space was 800 metres square, and Ducati has also established a new safety scheme which will see back protection included as a giveaway with every bike sold in Europe.
The proud Gabriele del Torchio explained the initiative, saying that being part of the Europen Community’s safety campaign, means Ducati believes in safety not just on its bikes but also in the accessory range available. He says: “To make this effort more concrete we’ve decided that every motorcycle sold in Europe will come with high quality back protection that will not only be in line with legal requirements, but will also increase safety for all Ducatisti.”
Back to the Ducati models present at the Intermot show, interesting news includes the GT 1000 Touring model, which is an evolution on the Gran Turismo from the Sport Classic family. For technical specs, see after the jump, but the colours are splendid including shiny black, while the Hypermotard 1100 and Multistrada 1100 S are also available in pearl white. The GT 1000 Touring model comes with a series of accessories including wind shield and chrome finishes.

After plenty of stolen glimpses and rumour mongering, BMW has revealed the K 1300 S model, which is the most powerful BMW model ever. With 175hp, the S model has a four cylinder engine at its heart, taking power to the 1300cc threshold. The torque is 140Nm at 8,500 rpm, on a bike who’s dry weight is only 228kg.
Given the power already on the old K 1200, the above figures give an idea that this will be a true missile on asphalt. BMW’s intention to develop this range to the fullest is evident, as the German company gets busy conquering the high performance market. For some details on the K 1300 S, go after the jump.
