Josh Brookes hasn’t been so lucky in these first two opening rounds of the British Superbike championship, he crashed out spectacularly at Paddock Hill Bend in race 1 at Brands Hatch and was forced to sit out race 2.
In the second round that took place at Oulton Park this weekend, Brookes took a sixth place in race 1 and in race 2 was chasing down Stuart Easton but at Britten’s chicane had this new and again highly spectacular crash, he lost the front of his Suzuki GSX-R1000 and the bike then becomes airborne and barely misses Easton.
Easton would later say, “I was so lucky when Josh’s bike came over me; it was like a plane crashing down on me.”
Cadwell Park offers some mighty fine racing and The Mountain is the most famous part of the English track and is also the most spectacular and challenging as this video of BSB rider Josh Brookes taking his HM Plant Honda over the jump can testify.
While some riders ride over the Mountain, Brookes prefers to jump it:
“Simple, I do it because its the fastest way I know how to get over there. I go as fast as I can and as a result I get air borne. As a bonus its fun and the crowd loves it. I can see why people are scared to jump, it can go bad really easily. I know the years of motocross are an advantage. I know how to jump and not get to out of shape. I go through the turns before the jump just like any other. On the up ramp to the jump I use a lot of throttle but more importantly I keep a lot of lean angle even though its going to be leaving the ground. I stay sat down until the take off point where I stand up as the bike takes off. I get over the front a little because the acceleration makes the front comes up a bit. If the bike stays to level I may give it a rev in the air to get the front up. I like to land rear wheel first.”

World Superbike team Echo CRS has decided to replace injured Broc Parkes for the opening round of the Championship at Phillip Island with Josh Brookes.
Brookes who currently rides for British Superbike team HM Plant Honda has already been given the okay from Honda, could also take part in the upcoming WSBK official tests that are scheduled this weekend, always at the Island.
If Parkes doesn’t regain full fitness in time for the second round at Portimao, team manager Sandro di Stefano could ask Brookes to take part in the Portugal race, as the British Superbike Championship kicks off only at the beginning of April at Brands Hatch.

Take a look at what happened in yesterday’s British Superbike race 1 at Mallory Park. HM Plant Honda rider Josh Brookes outbraked himself at the haipin, taking out race leader Simon Andrew and another five riders.
Brookes has been penalised with a two race ban for reckless riding and riding in a manner incompatibile with general safety.
It’s the second time this year that Brookes has been penalised for his riding, the first time when he took out Sylvain Guintoli at the Donington Park round.
