Kenny Roberts Thrills Fans at the Indy Mile

By Toni M. in: Personalities Video Yamaha

Talk about nostalgia at the Indy Mile dirt track last Saturday evening. Kenny Roberts put in several hot demostration laps with his infamous Yamaha TZ750 that thrilled thousands of screaming fans, young and old, and even several MotoGP riders who stood in awe watching King Kenny do his stuff.

Roberts may be a little older and a little heavier, but he certainly hasn’t lost his magic touch and innate speed judging by the video and he confirmed the same thing that he did back in 1975: “I said then they don’t pay me enought to ride this thing, that’s still true”

King Kenny Roberts and the Yamaha TZ750 united again

By Toni M. in: Racing Personalities Video Yamaha

Kenny Roberts is going back to his dirt track origins when he’ll return to the Indy Mile to ride the infamous Yamaha TZ750 for an promo event in conjuction with the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix in Indianapolis, late August.

Yamaha Corp. has persuaded Roberts to do a some laps with the TZ750, that was built and tuned by former 250 World Champion Kel Carruthers and which many thought to be unrideable. King Kenny managed to handle it and the above video from 1975, shows how he rode it to win the Indy Mile against Jay Springsteen and Corky Kenner.

After that race Roberts declared “They don’t pay me enough to ride that thing!” and also said it was the worst handling bike he ever rode and the wildest ride in his career.

The AMA later banned the road racing motor from dirt track competition.

47 Teams and 91 Entries for Moto2

By Toni M. in: Racing Championships Aprilia Honda

When FIM, Dorna and IRTA announced that they were changing the 250cc class to 600cc Moto 2, most fans turned up their noses and declared that it was the end of an excellent championship and that it would be an end as a learning school for riders that would be heading to the top class, that Dorna was making another bad mistake and most teams wouldn’t want anything to do with the new series, especially when it was announced that Honda would be the sole motor provider for the new Moto2 series.

After Friday’s official closing date FIM announced that they have received proposals from 47 teams for 91 entries, two of which are for the exsisting 250cc 2 stroke class that is still permitted to run in 2010 alongside the four-strokes, and those two will probably be Aprilia’s since the Noale based company is offering their RSA bikes free of charge to two teams.

Six satellite MotoGP teams, Tech 3 Yamaha, Gresini Honda, LCR Honda, Pramac Ducati and Grupo Francisco Hernando Ducati and Scot Honda all submitted entries for two-rider teams as well as most of the 250 teams, with Jorge “Aspar” Martinez who wants three places on the grid.

Maybe the best news is that Kenny Roberts has also submitted an application to field a team in Moto2. Team Roberts last fielded a MotoGP bike back in 2007. Speaking to Cycle News, the three times World Champion said:
