Summer is here and its time to check out the new and updated offroad and motocross bikes that are on the market. The Kawasaki KX450F and KX250F models have been updated in minute detail and can be considered almost revolutionary for some aspects. Until recently, the use of electronic gadgets had mostly remained out of the offroad scene which has always preferred a physical ride under the control of the rider.
But over recent years we have found technology like direct injection make its way into the offroad market, and now Kawasaki has introduced the first launch control system for motocross bikes. The KX450F is now equipped with launch control which has been designed specifically to find the holeshot at the start of the race.
The 2012 Kawasaki KX450F has a button which activates a separate engine mapping system that guarantees a sharp start even with low grip conditions. The clutch remains quite delicate but the launch control enables a rider to maximise traction and get a good start by delaying acceleration in first or second gear. Once in third, the system deactivates automatically.
Here are the videos for the new Kawasaki KX250F and KX450F offroad models for 2011. The big news on the models is the introduction of a digital fuel injection system, while the KX250F gets a revamp in the chassis and suspension departments, too. Both models will be available in Europe from this summer and come in Kawasaki’s classic and eye-catching lime green only. The videos after the jump are very cool compared to the boring Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R video that was produced - that’s one-up for dirtbikes on the excitement front.
The 2011 Kawasaki KX450F and KX250F have been released, with the latter considered Kawasaki’s ‘new’ cross bike. Both bikes are being released as “ready to race” models with new features including digital fuel injection and an optional data logging system called the ECU Setting Tool.
The KX450F has a single cylinder, 449 cm3 liquid-cooled motor and a new fuel system for more torque at lower revs. The Bridge-Boxed bottom piston first introduced on the 2010 model appears again on the new model, with the 450cc designed to be more powerful with better gear transition.
The chassis components remain mostly unchanged since last year, but the KX450F has a new Uni-Trak suspension system for racing riders at the rear, while the front of the bike has a Kayaba AOS fork with separate oil and air functions. The digital fuel injection system includes the small ECU which requires no battery, thus reducing weight.
The KX250F has some significant upgrades for 2011 and is also designed as a race bike with the new fuel injection system producing more power. It has a new chassis upgrade in the form of a Separate Function Fork which divides spring and damping functions. The highlights of the new KX250F are:
