Leon Camier fractured his scaphoid during qualifying practice at Nurburgring and underwent surgery a week ago but has decided to skip next week’s World Superbike round at Imola to give his wrist more time to heal.
“It really hurt the first night after the operation and I didn’t get much sleep but since then it has become more and more comfortable. It still gives me the odd sharp pain but it’s better than it was,” said Camier, speaking to bikesportnews.com. “I have started the rehabilition and physiotherapy process but there’s no way I will be able to ride at Imola. I’ve also been advised that I shouldn’t race at Magny-Cours either but I am just going to take it day-by-day and see how it is nearer the time.”
Max Biaggi’s nephew Federico, is tipped to replace Camier at Imola.

Showing off wounds picked up after crashing has become the latest fad among web savvy riders and Aprilia’s Leon Camier isn’t any different.
The reigning BSB champion crashed during qualifying practice at the WSBK Nurburgring round and picked up a broken scaphoid and this knee injury that forced him to retire from the German racing weekend. The Brit shows us his knee injury and how the Clinica Mobile patched him up and has even promised a video and pics from his scaphoid surgery.
If you’re easily grossed out, we don’t recommend the video.
Federico Biaggi, nephew of top rider Max Biaggi is tipped to replace injured Leon Camier in the final two rounds of the World Superbike season.
The 22 year-old Italian rider has already experience Aprilia’s superbike after competing in the 2009 Superstock 1000 FIM Cup with an Aprilia RSV4 Factory fielded by Team JiR-Gabrielli. Biaggi is now racing in the Italian CIV Superstock 600 class and recently switched to the R.C.G.M. 2B Team Corse, riding a Yamaha and is currently 8th in the championship.
Leon Camier fractured his scaphoid during qualifying practice at Nurburgring and had to pull out of the German round and will probably miss the final rounds of the season. The reigning British Superbike Champion, who scored a podium at Silverstone will be undergoing surgery today to repair the damage to his wrist.

Aprilia’s Leon Camier has fractured his right scaphoid during a highside crash during this afternoon’s QP1 at Nurburgring. The Brit also suffered a trauma to his knee that had to be stitched up.
“It was a certainly a big crash but I really don’t know what happened. There’s a left before it and the bike backed in on me a little bit but nothing major. Next thing I know I’m on the ground. It’s a real pain of a bone to break because there’s no blood flowing directly to it so it has to be fixed well other wise it can cause trouble. I’ve been on the phone to various people including Casey (Stoner) to get some recommendations.”
Camier will not be racing this weekend and according to his Twitter page he’ll undergo surgery on Monday and “hoping to be back racing before the end of the year!!”

Race 2 at Silverstone was almost another photocopy of race 1 with Sterilgarda Yamaha’s Cal Crutchlow and Hannspree Ten Kate Honda’s Jonathan Rea pulling away from the rest of the field making it a two man race. Crutchlow attempted his first pass with only a few laps left to go, but then his second decisive pass on lap 16 sticked and he pulled away from Rea and taking the fastest lap of the race to score his second World Superbike win of his career as he led another British one-two-three in his home race.
Third place went to Aprilia Alitalia’s Leon Camier with the Brit fighting his way from his sixteenth place on the grid to earn the final podium spot. Leon Haslam took fourth battling to the line with a hard charging James Toseland who crossed over the finish line in fifth on the Astroturf. Sixth went to World Championship leader Max Biaggi, who saw himself lose only eight points in standings in this difficult weekend for the Italian.
Completing the top ten were Sylvain Guintoli, Shane Byrne, Jakub Smrz and Carlos Checa. While the Ducati Xerox duo Michel Fabrizio and Noriyuki Haga had a disappointing race, with Fabrizio pulling out on the 11th lap with technical difficulties and Haga finishing in 13th behind wild card rider Joshua Brookes and his HM Plant Honda.
The BMW Motorrad team also had a disappointing day with Troy Corser who crashed out on the second lap after passing Max Biaggi and Ruben Xaus who could manage a lowly 11th place and was more that six seconds behind 1oth place Carlos Checa.

Aprilia’s Max Biaggi made it a double at Miller Motorsports Park round and now leads the World Superbike Championship standings by 15 points over Leon Haslam, who lost the rear of his Suzuki and crashed.
The Italian once again was gifted with the victory as he trailed Carlos Checa, who was determined to make up for his DNF in race 1 and was again leading the race with comfortable lead, using the same bike as in the first race and once again his Ducati shuddered to a heart breaking coasting stop, allowing Biaggi to cruise to an easy win and his second of the day.
Leon Camier took second under the chequered flag , giving the Aprilia Alitalia Racing team its first ever WSBK one-two finish and the Brit’s second podium of the season and taking Aprilia to the top of the manufacturers standings.
Cal Crutchlow completed the final spot on the podium. The Sterilgarda Yamaha rider battled the field to break away, stalking Camier and Troy Corser who was travelling in third after Camier’s pass on the Aussie rider and managed his pass on the BMW rider on lap 14 as the German superbike once again began to fade.

Race 1 at Assen was a real corker that saw an all British podium with Hannspree Ten Kate Honda’s Jonathan Rea winning his first World Superbike race.
The 23-year-old from Ulster took the lead from Troy Corser on lap 11 with a spectacular pass at the Hoge Heide and would give up the lead only briefly to James Toseland with three laps to go, but the Irish man would snatch it back and pushing hard would widen the gap and take home the victory.
James Toseland who took off from 10th place on the grid battled his way up the pack to take a stunning second place on the podium.
Third went to Leon Camier on the Aprilia, who took his first podium of the season and finishing ahead of his much more titled team mate Max Biaggi who made it to the sixth spot.

Italy’s national airline, Alitalia (CAI) as we all know by now, will be the title sponsor Aprilia’s World Superbike effort for the next two years.
Alitalia, who is still in the red (on Tuesday there was a 4 hour strike) will be spending three million euros to see the RSV4 machines ridden by Max Biaggi and Leon Camier with Alitalia tricolor livery, even if according to Italian financial daily Il Sole 24 Ore, there was a foreign company who offered more than Alitalia to sponsor the team, but it was judged that bringing the two Italian brands together would be more profitable.
The all Italian alliance saw Roberto Colaninno through his IMMSI (50,009% owned) and share holder and chairman of Alitalia (7,08%) and who controls the the Piaggio Group (53,6%) abstain from voting on the sponsorship deal to avoid any conflict of interest …
