Luca Scassa denies MV Agusta Supersport ride

By Toni M.

luca scassa

The rumor that Luca Scassa was in line to ride for Francis Batta’s new wannabe Supersport team fielding a MV Agusta F3 has been shot down by the Italian rider himself on his Facebook page:

MV Agusta for 2012 !?!? Would be very nice but I deny the news. I’ll keep you updated as soon as I can!

Batta is feverently working on a return to the Superbike paddock, but according to an interview with the Belgium manager with Italy’s Gpone.com, the Supersport project will be only defined by mid-January and apparently if everything does come together (budget, sponsors, competitveness) Alstare’s team won’t compete in the entire championship season, but only be for a few rounds.

Francis Batta to field Luca Scassa with a MV Agusta F3 in World Supersport?

By Toni M.

luca scassa

Francis Batta in a recent interview said he was pulling his team out of World Superbikes as Suzuki would no longer back him and in alternative to the Japanese manufacturer, Batta had tried to contact Massimo Bordi of MV Agusta to see if they were interested in fielding a team, but he was continually blown off and couldn’t get an appointment.

It now seems that stubborn Belgium manager finally got his appointment and must have pitched a pretty good offer to the Italian marque as latest rumors have it that he’ll be fielding a Supersport team in 2012 with Luca Scassa riding an MV Agusta F3.

Scasssa has a vast experience on MV Agusta machines, he won the 2006 CIV Superstock Championship with a F4 and took third in World Superstock championship the same year. In 2007, the Rocker as he’s known competed as MV Agusta’s official rider in the AMA Superbike Championship taking the Rookie of the Year award and in 2008 returned to Italy to win the CIV Superbike championship on the F4. In 2011 Scassa raced for Giuliano Rovelli’s Yamaha ParkingGo team taking taking three victories and finishing fifth overall.

Luca Scassa disqualified from Misano round

By Toni M.

luca scassa

Luca Scassa has just got his ass kicked for being dumb. The popular Italian rider who took second in today’s World Supersport race behind team mate Chaz Davies has been informed that he has been disqualified from taking part in the sixth round of the championship at Misano Adriatico scheduled for June 10-12th.

Scassa didn’t commit any racing wrongdoings on track, but the Italian a few weeks ago through his Scassa Racing Experience school was instructing riders at the Misano circuit riding a Yamaha R1 and not a R6 that he uses in the championship.

Unfortunately for Scassa and his team riding a machine at a circuit that is part of the WSS championship calendar unless the team specifically designates it as one of their test circuits (for the ParkinGO team it’s Aragon) is a big no, no, hence the disqualification according to the FIM rules 1.11.1 e 1.15.1.

By Toni M.

triumphbe1racinglogo

Just yesterday we informed you of the rumor floating around that World Supersport team BE1 Racing and Triumph were on the outs, which was confirmed by the provisional 2011 entry list that already had riders Luca Scassa and Chaz Davies listed as riding Yamaha’s R6’s.

The official press release announcing the mutual divorce, is as usual in these cases clouded with very careful wording stating that both parties just couldn’t reach an agreement.

WSS: BE1 Racing to switch from Triumph to Yamaha?

By Toni M.

be1 racing

The latest hot rumor going around is that World Supersport BE1 Racing team could be dropping their Triumph Daytona 675’s that they’ve been fielding since 2008, for Yamaha R6’s this upcoming season.

If Luca Scassa and Chaz Davies are going to be riding R6’s, the talk, mostly from the Italian media, that Scassa would be involved in the development of a superbike for the English manufacturer, ready for the 2012 championship, goes down the proverbial drain.

Apparently an announcement of the switch should be coming this week.

Luca Scassa in World Supersport with BE1 Racing in 2011

By Toni M.

luca scassa

Supersonic Racing team rider Luca Scassa will no longer be racing in the World Superbike championship next season, but will be switching to the World Supersport series and will be riding with ParkinGO Triumph BE1 Racing team.

While this may be surprising move by the Italian rider who has well impressed this year on a privateer Ducati, it could also been seen as a strategic move, because there are if the rumors that are floating around are true that Triumph is building a Superbike to enter the WSBK championship in 2012, Scassa could become part of this ambitious development project.

“I have been riding 1000cc bikes in recent years but I have experience of supersport racing from the Italian championship. I am looking forward to riding the Daytona 675. This will be my first experience of a three cylinder bike and I think that the extra torque will prove advantageous at some tracks. BE1 Racing has ambitions to be at the very top and one of my motivations for signing is that I can see the desire to win in the eyes of Giuliano Rovelli . It is important for me to be racing with a factory team again and I can see the great progress that Triumph has made in the championship over the past few years.”
said Scassa.

Chaz Davies has also re-signed for ParkinGO Triumph BE1 Racing next season.

Photo of the Day: Why we Prefer Motorcycle Racing to Football

By Toni M.

luca scassa two balls

With the World Cup stealing viewing audiences left and right, world superbike rider Luca Scassa decided to take the situation in hand and with a variation on “racing because football, baseball, bowling and golf only require one ball” exhibited this sign on his Ducati at Misano.

We couldn’t agree more with the Rocker, especially about the balls, but in Italy with Max Biaggi who is second to none with the number of fan followers and the spectacular racing that the World Superbikes offer us, race 1 was only seen by 747.000 viewers (13,7% share) and race 2 dropped to 476,00 with a 3,95% share.

Send your funny, bizarre or surprising pics to us and we’ll post them, with your name. We’d love to share what you guys find in the world of motorcycling! Send to: pics@twowheelsblog.com

WSBK: Luca Scassa finally signs with Supersonic Racing

By Toni M.

luca scassa While Luca Scassa was already listed in the World Superbikes entry list with Supersonic Racing team, the fact was that Scassa officially signed on the dotted line only last Saturday morning, to the relief of his numerous fans who were starting to worry that the deal had fallen through.

The new team that will be able run a Ducati 1198 R, however will not be present at the opening round at Phillip Island as Supersonic team manager Danilo Soncini has confirmed: “I have to thank Ducati for the passion shown and also Infront who clearly understood the lateness of the situation but allowed us to miss the Australian Round,” also adding: “We are all very happy for the situation that we have created, just think that one month ago the team’s plans were totally different but a series of factors made it possible for us to realize this fantastic dream.

After a first season with Team Pedercini, Scassa will be riding a Ducati, that according to several sources will be supplying the debuting team with official 2009 material, but the bikes won’t be ready till the first week of March thus the reason for missing the first round.

WSBK - Luca Scassa with Ducati Supersonic?

By Toni M.

luca scassa

Luca Scassa, also known as The Rocker, is probably one of Italy’s best loved up and coming riders, you just have to check out Italian forums to find out what a vast fan base that this 25 year old has.

Scassa who was the 2006 Italian Superstock champion, the 2007 Rookie of the Year in the AMA Superbike championship and in 2008 the Italian Superbike Championon on a MV Agusta with Gimotorsports team and in 2009 raced in WSBK with privateer Team Pedercini, often finishing ahead of the official Kawasaki riders.

Despite this racing curriculum, Scassa has had trouble finding a decent ride for the 2010 season, but several reputable Italian websites are linking Scassa with a new team called Supersonic.

Team Supersonic was planning to take part in World Superbikes championship in 2011, but with Scassa and having at their disposal both Noriyuki Haga’s highly competitive 2009 1198 Ducati’s and some sponsors, the team may decide to move up their entry a year early, but according to several other sources, the team isn’t ready to take part in the Portimao tests that start this Friday nor will they take part in the season opener at Phillip Island, preferring to wait for the first European round that takes place at Portimao on March 28th.

Luca Scassa to Wildcard in Portugal?

By Toni M.

Luca Scassa

The newly crowned Italian Superbike Champion, Luca Scassa who after winning the title with his Agusta F41000 R, also had another big wish, that was to ride at least once against 3 times World Champion Troy Bayliss. The young rider’s dream may come true.

It seems that Superbike Team DFX may just give Scassa the opportunity to ride in the last seasons race in Portugal. If the wild card appearance does come through, he’ll get a chance at riding Russell Holland’s bike, a Honda’s CBR1000RR . Holland switched to the SuperSport series half way during the season.
