Ever wonder what those hard working MotoGP teams do during a GP weekend? All work and no play you may think, but when you see this comedy photo book that Lucio Cecchinello’s LCR Honda Team put together to wish everyone a Happy New Year, you’ll think differently.
The video contains some of the funnier and embarassing pics they’ve taken of each other over the years, but have never before released before to unsuspecting fans.
Enjoy.

We’d like to post Lucio Cecchinello -LCR Honda’s team owner and manager - seasons greetings because it isn’t the usual Christmas card or video, but an interesting and different view point from a manager who runs a small team and who fights every day to stay and compete in the the expensive world of MotoGP racing.
Dear Friends,
Some weeks ago our 2011 “World Tour” came to an end. A year at full speed, with many sporting challenges that we always tried to face with commitment, excitement, and in every case with sportsmanship.
The end of every year represents an important moment to analyze the past, to make some assessments and, in addition, to plan new targets.

Andrea Dovizioso has been a faithful Honda rider for almost a decade and this season he’s having his best MotoGP results ever and is currently third in the standings and just 25 points behind Jorge Lorenzo and he’s losing his factory ride.
It may seem bloody unfair to this pretty unassumingbut headstrong Italian, but the present economic situation is forcing HRC to cut back on their factory bikes and Dovizioso and Marco Simoncelli are pitted against each other to see who will get that extra bike.
Simoncelli is content to stay with Gresini as long as he has factory support and Honda doesn’t make him dismember his present technical crew, while for Dovizioso it would be an unfortunate step backwards, so he’s had his manager in talks with Herve Poncharal’s Yamaha Tech3 team, with Rizla Suzuki, but it seems Dovizioso isn’t interested in riding the GSV-R as there’s still no official word of what Suzuki will be doing or using next year and also with Ducati. Going to Borgo Panigale is always tempting for an Italian, but realistically a Desmosedici has become a career killer for any rider (except Stoner) who wants to win and be on the podium (which is the same reason that Jorge Lorenzo refused Ducati’s offer back in 2009).
Sill HRC is doing all they can to keep the two riders close to their bosom and have asked Lucio Cecchinello (LCR Honda) to take Dovi in and are promising that while the new RC213V won’t be a 100% factory, but it will be constantly updated during the season. Cecchinello has stated that he is trying to organize the team for Dovizioso’s arrival but the move requires more funding than the team can currently count on, however if the plan should fall through the team manager has set his sights on John Hopkins, but he’ll need Honda’s approval.

At a quick glance this may look like Toni Elias’ 2011 RC 212V Honda, but it isn’t underneath the fairing. This is Lucio Cecchinello’s CRT bike that could take part in the 2012 Moto1 championship.
The bike is 70% complete and Max Temporali (Mediaset Premium’s MotoGP commentator) took it out for a spin at the Castelletto di Branduzzo circuit.
The bike is currently equipped with a CBR1000RR engine and the standard chassis (which should have to go based on the CRT rules) and just the front end says Temporali, between last year’s set of Öhlins forks, Brembo carbon fibre brakes and Marchesini wheels is worth 50,000 euros and the team is currently working on a longer swingarm and complete bike should go for about €150.000.
The FIM and Dorna should release the names of the CRT teams tomorrow.

The city of Venice with the marvellous backdrop of it’s annual Carnival that recreates the atmosphere of the event as it was lived under the Serenissima Republic, hosted the LCR Honda MotoGP Team’s presentation at the reknowned Venice Casino.
Last Friday the team with Lucio Cecchinello and Toni Elias presented the #24 RC212V that he’ll be using this 2011 season and also on display were some other Honda’s at the casino.
In addition to the delicious Venetian food and champagne the diners have celebrated surrounded by the famous bunnies and the beautiful nineteenth century ladies, admiring the Burlesque show, playing at the gaming tables and dancing till the dawn at Palazzina Grassi in the unique Carnival atmosphere.
Toni Elias:
“I flew here from Barcelona with my mum and my dad and we were all surprised because the party was unique! Venice is a wonderful city and the event was incredible. I could feel the affection of the Team guests and I was very happy because I met them for the first time. I must thank Lucio and the team staff for their efforts because this party was a real success. On the stage I joked with Lucio about our past challenges when he was a 125cc rider and now he is my Boss! We are leaving for Qatar in a couple of days and I hope to return all this trust to Lucio, his Team and all the fans. It won’t be easy but I am very stubborn (Lucio knows my temper!) and the premier class already gave me several successes that’s why I am very confident”.

Pramac Ducati wasn’t the only team who went green in 2010, Lucio Cecchinello’s LCR Honda team has been trying to be eco friendly since 2009, when they launched their EcoStyle project.

Team clothing and team merchandise is largely made of pure cotton and gadgets are made of recyclable or low impact materials, The use of recycling bins if the country they visit has public infrastructures for recycling garbage. The hospitality uses only biodegradable and compostable cutlery and only biodegradable detergents are used for cleaning.
For his interest in a sustainable world and his EcoStyle Project, Cecchinello was awarded at the “Rinasci_mente”: new generations, new energies” convention.

Times are really changing for professional racers, some riders like Jorge Lorenzo, have or have had sports psychologists to help them through bad times or if their performances aren’t up to par according to their team, they may get hauled over for some couch time, as Marco Melandri was when he was riding for Ducati in 2008.
The sport is no longer just slinging a leg over a bike and trying to be the best and fastest out there, but has become much deeper and also takes into account emotions, injuries, and even forced retirement as the round table organized by LGS Sport Lab (a company who offers innovative services to the world of sports) during this year’s edition of the Motor Show in Bologna, explored with the help of several top figures of the motorsports world.
Taking part where Lucio Cecchinello, who was a former 125cc class rider and became full time Team Manager in 2004, Doctor Claudio Costa (former orthopedic head physician at Rizzoli Hospital in Bologna and founder of the Clinica Mobile) and Franco Uncini (former rider and MotoGP Safety Commission Responsible) attended the talk show together with Eng. Mazzola (Ferrari F1 consultant), Thomas Biagi (Formula 3000 driver) and the lawyer Italo Giorgio Minguzzi (former University teacher, lawyer and big fan of sports and competitions).
Toni Elias’s test times on the LCR Honda at Valencia weren’t exactly news stopping as Casey Stoner’s were, but the M0to2 champion had a couple of good excuses for his poor performace. He had to re-adapt to MotoGP bikes after spending a year in the lower category and suffers occasionally from arm pump problems (he’s gone through about three operations so far) he tried to kick butt in the final lap of the Valencia race and ended up in the gravel pit and finished 30th and he’s being doing a lot of promo and sponsor work since winning the title at Sepang.
Tiger Toni took a break from his hectic post title schedule and visited his team’s headquarters after taking part in the 31st edition of Monza Rally show, driving for the first time a rally car, like the Grande Punto Abarth. Elias classified 28th in the Super2000 class and 70th overall, while former Moto2 rival Andrea Iannone, finished 19th in the Super2000 category and 52nd in the general classification.
“Lately I am travelling a lot for interviews, ceremonies etc… and I like that, but I needed a break and the Monza Rally was the right opportunity. That was my first time on a rally car but I enjoyed the competition a lot, said Elias. “I think I have found a new game to play! Then before going back home I have decided to visit Lucio and the Team at their tech division. I was impressed about the atmosphere and the history you can feel in that place: it is full of photos, awards, motorbikes in every corner and all of the staff (technicians, hospitality staff, administration and commercial personnel and graphic department guys) have been very friendly and warm with me”.
After reading how LCR Honda creates their liveries, the 2010 team was officially presented to the press at the Losail race track and that Randy De Puniet will be using on his Honda in Qatar, with the GIVI logos, who is this round’s event title sponsor.
Isn’t it strange not seeing De Puniet with his leathers open and showing off his manly chest?

For our motorcycle pic of the day, today we give you this x-ray photo of Randy de Puniet’s ankle from our friends at Motosblog. Despite his injury, he is still racing for Lucio Cecchinello’s LCR Honda team, which hopes to re-sign Puniet for another season contract.
After a third place at Donington, and 12th on the weekend at Indianapolis, Puniet sustained his injury about a month ago during motocross training. However contract negotiations between Honda and Puniet are set to be completed sometime before the Misano race on September 13th. We wish him all the best, especially considering the x-ray. How many pins can you fit in one ankle?!

Italians like to gossip and the media likes to exaggerate and sometimes they come up with pure bull, so take this piece of so called news that’s on Italian website Motocorse as something just fun to read.
It seems that owner and manager of LCR Honda, Lucio Cecchinello has pulled out the proverbial rabbit out of the hat, because it looks like that he’s found a brand new sponsor that will soon grace Randy DePuniet’s Honda’s livery and is known in the whole world: Playboy!
It’s not official and everyone involved is hiding behind the usual no comment, but Cecchinello was seen at the La Vecchia Firenze restaurant in Montecarlo together with Hugh Hefner, right before Hefner’s guest appearance at Italian Song Festival in San Remo last February. The Italian manager was also got invited to the exclusive party held by Playmedia Company and Playboy’s Italian editor at the Victory Morgana Bay restaurant.
UPDATE:
According to Cecchinello who talked to gpone, the gossip is true!

When Loris Capirossi and Sete Gibernau crashed in Barcelona in 2006, there was a lot of talk how a brake lever protection could have avoided that terrifying accident and now three years later it looks like the LCR Team has decided to experiment on Randy De Puniet’s RC212V Honda, a decent looking and hopefully safe front brake lever protection.
The photo is from the Losail -Qatar MotoGP test last week.
