WSBK - Max Neukirchner to Ten Kate Honda?

By Toni M.

max neukirchner

After Alstare Suzuki said that they were surprised that Max Neukirchner would be able and be allowed to participate in the Portimao tests on October 26, other rumors have started circulating regarding the rider’s true status in the team.

During this year’s WSBK silly season, Neukirchner was linked to switch to the new BMW team who wanted the Suzuki rider and was seriously thinking of buying out Neukirckner contract, despite the fact that he was already contracted with the Belgium team for 2010.

However several websites are now reporting that Alstare Suzuki team owner Francis Batta has terminated Neukirchner’s contract for 2010 due to ongoing injuries that have kept the rider out of most of this season and lingering doubts surrounding his health, and that the German rider is heading to the Hannspree Ten Kate Honda team to replace Carlos Checa and Ryuichi Kiyonari, as the team is cutting down from three to two riders.

Ronald ten Kate talking to Motorsport Akutuell has confirmed that Neukirchner has signed a pre-contract with them and they are now ironing out the details.

The deal is expected to be announced early next week.

WSBK - Max Nuekirchner to return for Portimao tests, but is he healthy enough?

By Toni M.

max neukirchner

Max Neukirchner has announced on his personal website that he will return to riding his Suzuki at the Portimao tests, October 26th.

The German rider sustained serious leg and foot injures during a first corner pile-up at the Monza round which put the Alstare Suzuki rider out of action for over ten weeks. Returning in time to partecipate in the Imola test, Neukirchner crashed again and sustained four fractures to his vertebrae. A D12 dorsal vertebra fracture in his lower back as well as minor cracks in the L1, L2 and L3 lumbar vertebrae.

You’d say welcome back, except that the Alstare Suzuki team was surprised that Neukirchner would partecipating in the tests and has gone so far as to state it in the team website.

The team had received reports at the Imola round from doctors Costa, Corbascio and neurosurgeon Professor Bollini, who declared that they would not take responsibility for allowing Max to ride a bike again this year. Adding that Max’s recovery time should be somewhere between four and six months and that, only after this period, would they be able to give their opinion about Max’s health and his ability to start training and competing again.

WSBK Imola Test - Neukirchner crashes, fractured vertebra

By Toni M.

max neukirchner Max Neukirchner from Alstare Suzuki returned to track yesterday for the official Imola tests after being sidelined for 10 weeks with injuries picked up during the horror pile-up in Race 1 at Monza.

Ninety minutes into this morning’s session, Neukirchner crashed out at the Tamburello turn, the session was red flagged while he stretchered to the Clinica Mobile for a check up. The initial diagnosis was that Neukirchner had suffered only abrasions and bruises to his back, but further X-rays in a Bologna hospital have revealed that he has a fractured vertebra, but it remains unclear, as in Noriyuki Haga’s case, if the fracture is a result of this morning’s crash or is from a previous injury.

Doctors have advised the German rider to wear a body cast for 20 days and then re-evaluate the situation, but Neukirchner seems to have decided to return to Germany and be operated on. Later this afternoon further tests will be carried out.

UPDATED:
According to the official SBK website Max Neukircher has been diagnosed with four fractures to his vertebrae. A D12 dorsal vertebra fracture in his lower back as well as minor cracks in the L1, L2 and L3 lumbar vertebrae. Neukirchner will return to Germany and remain in a plaster cast for 30 days.

By Toni M.

According to Italian website GPone, 21 year old American Blake Young with be riding at Donington Park for the next round of WSBK championship with Alstare Suzuki’s Brux team. Young will be replacing Max Neukirchner who is still out from injuries he picked up at Monza.

Why did Francis Batta pick Young instead of keeping Fonsie Nieto, who has been replacing Neukirchner in the the last races? Simple, the legendary number 34, Kevin Schwantz presented the rider to the Belgian team manager.

Young presently competes in the AMA Superbike Championship with Rockstar Makita and rides a Suzuki GSX-R1000 and is 8th in the current standings. Team mate Mat Mladin believes that Young should be trying to race in Europe and went as far to write this up in his Twitter account and personal blog that you can read here.

WSBK - Fonsi Nieto to ride at Misano and Donington

By Toni M.

alstare suzuki nieto Fonsi Nieto has been confirmed by Alstare Suzuki Brux for the next two rounds of the WSBK Championship at Misano Adriatico and Donington Park. Nieto will be replacing again Max Neukirchner who still is recovering from the pile up incurred during Race 1 at Monza.

The Spanish rider has already two rounds under his leathers with the GSX-R 1000 K9 and took a 16th and 15th place in Kyalami and a 16th and 13th place at Miller, but the team is hoping that Neukirchner will be able to return in time for the Brno round from July 24th to 27th.

With the German out of any chance of fighting for the championship and Yukio Kagayama who is riding with a broken foot and a injured shoulder Alstare Suxuki is already looking ahead to the 2010 season as confirmed by Giacomo Guidotti, the team’s technical director.

Batta’s team will be using the same bike next year and needs the feedback that Neukirchner, who is considered the number one in the team can give them, and they also have to try to keep their rider, because the BMW racing team desperately wants Neukirchner in their team and it seems that they are even willing to pay off the 2010 contract that Neukirchner has with Alstare Suzuki to get him.

Max Neukirchner after Monza crash

By Toni M.

Max Neukirchner has returned home from the San Gerardo hospital in Monza and started the road to recovery. On Sunday evening he underwent a six hour operation to repair the damaged bones in his right leg blood. After spending two and a half days in the hospital was discharged on Thursday and allowed to go home.

As he was not allowed to fly, Max was driven home in his campervan, where he was able to stretch out and enjoy a relatively comfortable trip back to Germany. In Germany, Max will be looked after by Doctor Manfred Kupfer in Chemnitz and his condition reassessed. After staying in the clinic in Chemnitz for a few days, a more accurate prognosis will be available as to the date of Max’s return to action. Dr Kupfer has already seen all of Max’s X-rays and believes all the operations were successfully carried out. Max’s thigh is stabilised by a pin, but the double fracture of the fibula will be allowed to heal on their own. The biggest problem is likely to be in Max’s right foot, where the fractures were fixed by wires.

Fonsi Nieto to replace Neukirchner

By Toni M.

nieto and neukirchner

With Max Neukirchner out of action with a broken femur and three broken bones in the lower leg and foot, Team Suzuki Alstare Brux has called on Spanish rider and former Alstare Suzuki rider Fonsi Nieto to replace Neukirchner in this weekend’s WSBK race in Kyalami, South Africa.

Nieto naturally knows the team and crew, but will start the first day of practice never having ridden the GSX-R K9.

The last Superbike race in South Africa was in 2002 and both races were won by Troy Bayliss.

Fonsi Nieto:

“Firstly, I want to wish Max all the best for a quick recovery. His crash at Monza was not his fault and he is lucky that the injuries are not worse than the are. I am very grateful to Francis Batta for giving me this opportunity to ride for the team again and I will do my best to repay his faith in me. Although I know the team, I do not know the bike because it is a completely new and different bike to last year’s model. So, I will have to learn the bike and learn the track at the same time and that is not so easy, but I will do my best for sure.”

By Toni M.

noriyuku haga

After yesterday’s Superpole Noriyuki Haga said “It doesn’t matter about qualifying. My priority is the races, to win twice on Sunday. We have a good package so I hope we can do that” and went on to prove it in Race 1 at Valencia.

Starting in 3rd place on the grid, the Samurai of Slide took a powerful win and while was at it also broke Neil Hodgson’s 2003 Valencia WSBK race lap record and leaving the rest of pack to fight over the crumbs with his 3.677 second lead.

Ben Spies loosing his front crashed on the tenth lap while he was 3rd trying to catch up to Alstare Suzuki rider Neukirchner and Haga and Michel Fabrizio who had a bad start caught Neukirchner with 3 laps to go and came in second.

A notable mention goes to French rider Regis Lagoni on his satellite Ducati who took a fantastic 4th.

By Alison

Suzuki GSX-R1000 Replica Fonsi Nieto

Our compliments go to Danny Gladman, owner of this GSX-R 1000 Fonsi Nieto Replica. The English fan spent a load of cash and some hard work the recreate the look of the splendid Sol Levante superbike.

In addition to the paint work, Danny has equipped the GSX with Twin Arrow Titanium Megaphone exhausts, Power Comander III USB, K&N air filter and an LCD from Dynojet.

The bike has been autographed by Alstare riders Fonsi Nieto, Max Neukirchner and Yukio Kagayama. The weight is around 165 kg, and power hits 171 hp! And yes, we’re jealous…
