Harley-Davidson Captain America motorcycle

By Alison

In creating the new Captain America film based on the vintage comics from the World War II era, film producers went to American legends Harley-Davidson for the right kind of military motorcycle for the superhero. The result is a Harley-Davidson Captain America custom based on a Cross Bones model. The challenge was to recreate a WLA military bike and we think they’ve done quite a fine job.

Autoblog reports that the Cross Bones model was the closest HD could get to an accurate period piece given its spring mounted saddle for a solo rider and springer fork. In the video above you can see more of how they created the bikes for the Captain American film, plus some action shots of the superhero himself riding around on a Harley-Davidson.

Marisa Miller for Harley Davidson

Harley Davidson has declared the first ever “Military Appreciation Month” in the US, creating a dedicated site where people can send a personal electronic postcard featuring supermodel Marisa Miller. Miller is featured on postcards, a poster and a vintage-style calendar, posing with Harley Davidson motorcycles.

The “Salute Those who Defend Freedom” site also includes a competition to win a Harley delivered by Miller herself. To see the postcards of thanks to America’s military men and women, check out the Harley military month site.

Military bikes: the M1030M1E

By koen

I’ve never been able to meet this bike but I think it’s great to have a proper look at it and find out some specific details of this military bike. The M1030M1E AVTUR Diesel Military is designed for the specific needs of the UK and EU NATO. The production started around March 2006.

The four stroke single cylinder diesel engine, with four valves is liquid cooled. Torque is 44 Nm at only 3000 rpm and power is 21 Kw at 5500 rpm. It has a five gear transmission and a wet multi-plate clutch. The dry weight of this military diesel bike is only 172 Kg and you can ride faster than 130 Km/h. The range is spectacular, you can really have a nice day trip on road and/or off-road and ride the bike for 650 Km long distance at 88 Km/h.

This model and some others are developed by “HDT USA” or Hayes Diversified Technologies USA. The company stands for innovation, quality and service, and provides the best diesel motorcycle technology to government and civilian costumers.
