World Ducati Week 2012 - immagini edizione 2010

Ducati announced that next year the World Ducati Week (WDW) will be held at the Misano circuit (which is bound to adopt Marco Simoncelli’s name) from the 21st until the 24th of June. The event took place for the first time in 1998 and it’s been growing in popularity since, attracting thousands of Ducati enthusiasts from every corner of the world.

The next edition will be the 7th one of the series. The previous one took place in 2010 in what can be considered now as the historic home of the event, the Misano circuit. Ducati official bikes and riders, shows, races, music, Ducati models coming from everywhere and plenty of Ducati maniacs are the main ingredients of the WDW, an event that will take over not only the circuit itself, but the entire Romagna Riviera for four days.

In order to remind all the Desmo fanatics out there of how a World Ducati Week tastes like, here are some snapshots taken during the 2010 edition: just click on the link below.

Yamaha Confirms Valentino Rossi's test at Misano

By Toni M.

rossi

It wasn’t all media gossip that Valentino Rossi would try to ride a streetbike at Misano to check out his physical conditions since his accident during free practice for the Italian Grand Prix at Mugello, because Yamaha Racing has released the following statement:

Valentino Rossi will ride a Yamaha YZF-R1 at a private test in Misano, Italy this afternoon. The Italian has made an excellent recovery so far since breaking his leg at Mugello on 5th June and he has decided to proceed with the test ride today in order to better understand his current physical condition. Riding a racing motorcycle will help Valentino and his doctors to plan the next stage of his rehabilitation programme in order that he may return to racing as soon as he feels confident to do so.

The test will take place using a YZF-R1 WSB machine provided by the Yamaha World Superbike Team to the Fiat Yamaha Team. Yamaha will inform the media later today of the results of the test and of Valentino’s condition.

Rossi previously targeted the Czech Grand Prix in August for his return, but should the test go favourably he could be back next week for the Sachsenring round and making Dorna’s Carmelo Ezpeleta very happy considering the big drop in TV viewing audiences since Rossi’s accident.

Andrea Iannone Sponsor Punishment

By Toni M.

andrea iannone

If you follow the 125cc Championship, you’ll certainly remember the incident at Misano between Andrea Iannone and Pol Espargaro. Iannone head butted the Spanish rider and then in a post race interview with Italia 1 had a meltdown, seasoned with a few racial slurs.

Iannone publicly apologized with a press release, but the team has taken action. Iannone arrived at Estoril and his team Ongetta Team I.S.P.A, have put their rider under strict orders; no talking to the press under any circumstances.

The team’s sponsors according to a press release have been offended by Iannone’s actions and do not want to be associated with that type of behavior and to protect the other three riders and not leave the team in financial trouble, have ordered that the young Italian rider ride his Aprilia RSA 125 minus two sponsor logo’s on his leathers and bike.

By Alison

This is a funny video between two great sporting legends: Valentino Rossi and Maradona. Seeing the MotoGP race at Misano, Maradona’s sportsmanship was overcome by his emotion for the win.

He said: “I’m not very sporty, eh. When Casey Stoner fell, I said “tiè” [yeah]!! I’m sorry….I’m sorry… Go Valentino go!”

Rossi donates 650,000, hometown changes speedregulations

By koen

New traffic regulations have been enacted in the Italian town of Tavullia. Tavullia is a small town, 30km from Rimini, the place to be if you like night life and a beach holiday, and 12 km from the International racetrack of Misano. Tavullia is also hometown for MotoGP Champion Valentino Rossi.

Valentino Rossi is like so many other riders and teams involved with charity. Yesterday he donated the fabulous amount of 650.000 euros to use for the renovation from the local cemetery in his hometown. To honour Valentino, they changed the speed limits from 50 km/h to 46 km/h, like Rossi’s magical bike number in MotoGP.

Casey Stoner to be operated?

By koen

In the latest press release distributed by Ducati Corse today, Casey Stoner and Livio Suppo are talking about the coming Indianapolis race and Casey’s injury.

In Stoner’s opinion: “Obviously I’m not happy with the results of the last few races. We have proved that we are consistently fast but that clearly isn’t enough. I know that I have got the support of a great team and a bike I have a great feeling with. I’m going to try to enjoy riding it over the final few races, which all take place at circuits I like a lot. I also have to think about the scaphoid that we thought had healed back in 2003 but is still giving me problems. For the time being I have to deal with it but we’re talking to the doctors about what to do with it in the future. I can’t wait to go back to America and race at Indianapolis, a circuit nobody knows but where I am sure our bikes and tyres will work just as well as they have done at the last few races.”

Livio Suppo, Ducati MotoGP project director talks about Casey’s injury: “We’re hoping that the problems he had with his wrist at Misano don’t prevent him from riding at his maximum this weekend. Casey underwent a CAT scan last week, which showed that the scaphoid he fractured and had operated on back in 2003 has never completely healed. With the support of a pool of doctors over the last weeks, Casey will decide if another operation is going to be necessary.”

Twowheels hopes Casey can wait a while before being operated and can give us all a thrilling Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix!
