No Kiefer Racing CRT squad in MotoGP

By Toni M.

stefan bradl

Moto2 team Kiefer Racing who had an ambitious plan of moving to MotoGP next season with a CRT team with Stefan Bradl as a rider, has been shot down.

Their main sponsor Viessmann, has decided not to support the move which leaves the German team who was accepted as one on the six CRTs, without the necessary funding, and as team owner, Stefan Kiefer stated back in August, “Our MotoGP plans stand or fall with Viessmann.

Whether current Moto2 leader Stefan Bradl, who was highly tipped to move to MotoGP in 2012 even without his team, now remains to be seen. According to speedweek.de website, Yamaha’s interest in securing Bradl for Herve Poncharal’s Tech3 team has waned and apparently this opportunity for the German rider is no longer available.

Video: how the Vyrus 986 M2 is built

By Alison

If you’re wondering what that first sentence in Italian means it’s a kind of play on words that says that before motor monotony reigned in motorcycles. Obviously the Vyrus 986 M2 bike is here to change that. This video shows how the new Moto2 weapon is built but you’ll have to perservere with it because it’s not an easy video to watch (and neither is the music particularly easy on the ears).

Skip the black labrador (chief Vyrus mascot?) and go to the one-minute mark where things really kick off and you can see the 986 M2 built in a series of fast photographics, one after the other. Apart from the innovative chassis and frame setup, the MCN Vyrus 986 M2 track ride convinced us of the possibilities of this bike, and if someone wants to take a gamble it could be very competitive in the Moto2 class.

Interview with Hervé Poncharal Yamaha Tech3 boss

By Toni M.

herve poncharal tech 3 moto2

Our French speaking cousins at Motosblog.fr had the opportunity to talk to Hervé Poncharal, Yamaha Tech3 and Moto2 boss the other day, and since we don’t often hear from the other side of the Alps, we thought that a translation of the interview would be an interesting read.

Motosblog: Hervé, we saw at Sepang two very different Tech3 riders. Edwards, the “old wolf” who was testing well, while Crutchlow was trying to understand his bike, what do you think?

HP: Just to get started, I’ll tell you Vincent that we’ll see a great season, the last of the 800cc will be the most exciting and most beautiful ever.

Moto2: Xavier Simeon finds a ride with Tech3

By Toni M.

tech 3 moto2 simeon

If anyone had betted a dollar that Xavier Simeon would have found a new team after that Holiday Gym team folded and with the 2011 season just around the corner, most would have kept the buck in their pockets.

However the former FIM Superstock Cup champion (with theDucati Xerox Junior Team) has found a ride backed by Belgium TV channel RTL Sport and the Mettet circuit who worked out a deal with Herve Poncharal’s Moto2 Tech3 team.

Simeon will be fielded with Mike di Meglio and Bradley Smith on a Mistral 610, but in a separate structure and his bike will be branded with the RTL Sport and Circuit de Mettet colors.

“This was a last minute opportunity that immediately interested me. I had the opportunity to observe Xavier on track last season and his performances caught my attention. Having a third Mistral 610 will help us develop technically as well as giving us another opportunity for good results. Xavier is the only Belgian rider at this level, and will have his own RTL Sport colours. We are happy to work with RTL to further expand the audience of Moto2. The entire Tech 3 team welcomes this exciting collaboration.”
said Poncharal.

Sponsor a GP Moto2 rider with € 2053

By Toni M.

valentin debise leathers

If your name isn’t Valentino Rossi or Jorge Lorenzo, finding a personal sponsor to back you is tough going, especially if you think that many riders support their own rides living off their helmet, leather and boot money, and such is the case of French rider Valentine Debise.

Debise who’ll be racing for Moto2 SpeedUp team this season, needs support and is asking his fans to help him out, and since necessity is the mother of ingenuity, has come up with this pretty unique idea.

For the sum of 2053 euros you can see your own name stamped on the front of his leathers for one GP race, alongwith 2 tickets to one of the European GP races of your choice, paddock pass with a guided tour by Debise in the SpeedUp team garage and a year subscription to MotoGP.com (video and live timing) and the usual personalized T-shirts.

If 2053 euros is a little too steep for your pockets, Debise is offering other items at lesser prices to members of his I Love VD53 P’tit Gaz’ support club. Check out his website here.

Moto2: Forward Racing officially confirms Cluzel and Baldolini

By Toni M.

cluzel silverstone

Even if Jules Cluzel and Alex Baldolini have already tested Forward Racing team’s Suter bike, both riders were officially confirmed only two days before Christmas, as was the new management, after team manager Andrea Dosoli’s switch to Yamaha Sterilgarda in Superbikes.

Naturally Cluzel was confirmed after finishing 7th in the 2010 Moto2 standings, with a win at the Silverstone GP and third place podium in the season open in Qatar, while the 25-year old Baldolini will be replacing Claudio Corti in the team. Baldolini took a second place podium at Estoril with Caretta Technology Race Dept., one of few teams that didn’t make the 2011 Moto2 entry list.

John Cuzari, CEO of Media Action and owner of Team Forward Racing has assigned Marco Curioni as Sporting Director and Sergio Verbena in the role of technical manager.

“I’m really happy to start a new adventure with this team,” said Baldolini. “I’m confident that combining my experience with their professionalism, we will be able to compete consistently for the positions that count. Even in the first test, and I wasn’t in the best physical condition, I immediately had a good feeling with the bike and the team.”

By Toni M.

Dominque Aegerter CIP Technomag

Even if Moto2 rider Dominque Aergerter is a native of Switzerland, (snow, ice, the Alps), apparently he never tried his hand at ice racing, and before Christmas, the Technomag-CIP rider got into the saddle of a 500cc bike with no brakes and learned to power-slide sideways.

Aegerter was so enthusiastic about ice racing that he signed up to compete in the 11th round of Eisspeedwayrennen (Swiss league) that takes place in Flims on January 14th.

Wind tunnel testing for El Tenerife 40 Pons Moto2 team

By Toni M.

El Tenerife 40 Pons wind tunnel testing

Sito Pons’s El Tenerife 40 Pons Moto2 team were in Germany last week to undergo wind tunnel testing on their Kalex bike at Volkswagen’s technical development center.

Pons who is 180 cm tall and similar in build to his team mate Aleix Espargaro, tried out different aerodynamic positions at 180 km/h, and the findings will now be developed by Kalex in time to be tested for the February Moto2 tests.

“I want to thank Kalex for giving me the opportunity to let me test in the wind tunnel for them. It was a great experience,” said Pons. “I think the data we gathered will help us to make the bike next year even better than this year’s, so we can fight for the top spots. I’ve been training to get ready for February and to test on track all the development work they’ve been doing in Germany. “
