Today’s Moto2 race at Aragon, was a full fledged battle royale for two thirds of the race distance, which saw Marc Marquez triumph again, taking his seventh race of the season and reducing Stefan Bradl’s Moto2 championship lead to just six points.

It was a spectacular battle starting from the first lap with dozens of passes between Scott Redding, Sfefan Bradl and Marquez all three exchanging the lead. By the fourth lap Bradl was leading, ahead of Redding and Marquez, but the trio will have to soon deal with hard charging Andrea Iannone, Alex de Angelis and Simone Corsi who joined in the fray. The leadership of the race exchanged hands between all of these riders, with overtaking passes at almost every turn of the circuit.

With just six laps to go, the race suddenly changed pace as Iannone went slightly wide giving Marquez got the space he needed to clear out and he sped away, leaving the others to fight it out between themselves. The Spaniard crossed the finish line to win with a 2.466 second margin.

Iannone after his mistake re-took second holding off both Simone Corsi and Alex de Angelis. Aleix Espargaro took fifth with a pack of 13 riders all jostling to take the spot.

Title leader Stefan Bradl managed to finish 8th after suffering some big issues with his tires, while Scott Redding ended up in 15th, tire issues also for the Marc VDS rider. While Elena Rosell completed her first race in 33rd.

Marc Marquez storms to 6th pole of Moto2 season at Aragon

By Toni M.

Moto2 title contender Marc Marquez is on the roll as he stormed to his 6th pole position of the season (the 5th in the last 7 races) in today’s qualifying session at Aragon.

Marquez, who many say is already using Suter’s 2012 chassis (which will no doubt cause a lot of rumbles among the other Suter riders) also debuted a new swingarm. The Spaniard’s 1.53.296 blitzed Andrea Iannone’s 2010 pole position record by over two seconds, and left the rest of the numerous Moto2 field gasping and unable even to get close to his lap time.

Julian Simon took second and then ended the session with a high speed crash at turn 13, and 0.684s off Marquez’s pole setting lap, while Scott Redding took third, just 0.024s from Simon, making it an all Suter front row.

Moto2: Alex de Angelis at Aragon with JiR Racing

By Toni M.

alex de angelis Alex de Angelis will be taking part in the Gran Premio di Aragon this weekend with JiR Racing.

The Sammarinese has yet to finalize a deal with Gianluca Montiron’s team for the rest of the season, but Montiron has given De Angelis another chance to ride their MotoBi bike after the tragic death of Shoya Tomizawa at the Misano GP.

“I’ll be riding at the Grand Prix at Aragon with the JiR team and this is very comforting. Being at this race is very important for me after the dramatic events of Misano. Getting back on track will infact be the first step to try overcome the difficult time that I’m living and evaluate how I feel once I’m back on a bike,” said De Angelis. “Currently we haven’t found an agreement for the end of season so I’ll be riding for JiR only at Aragon, but my lawyer will be with me so we can continue negotiations with Gianluca Montiron and see if we can close this deal.”

Fonsi Nieto to race at Aragon

By Toni M.

fonsi nieto

If you thought that Valentino Rossi and Randy de Puniet were slightly mad to return to racing after just 40 and 20 odd days after breaking their legs, then you’ll find Fonsi Nieto absolutely nuts, because he’ll be returning for the Moto2 Aragon GP.

Nieto suffered a fractured heel bone (fractured in six places) and ankle bone (also fractured in six places) during qualifying at Indianapolis. The Spaniard unerwent a first surgery Sunday evening at the Methodist hospital at Indianapolis, but suffered postoperative complications and had a respiratory arrest. On Monday his foot was at risk and the doctors were considering an amputation and he underwent a second surgery to remove blood clots, a third operation on Thursday before being sent home to Spain and a fourth operation by Dr. Angel Villamor at the Clinica Dexeus in Barcelona.

Nieto was expected to be out for at least three or four months, but has surprised everyone by saying that he’ll be back on his Moto2 bike Friday morning at Aragon just three weeks after his injury.

Speaking to AS.com Nieto said: “I’ve decided to return because I need it and my doctor has approved and told me that it is a mental issue, not physical, so I’m prepared to return.”

We know that riders are able to overcome physical injuries with their determination and the magic potions of the Clinica Mobile, but with a forty rider Moto2 grid would you risk a return this fast?
