Moto2 Mugello: Andrea Iannone takes Surprise Pole

Andrea Iannone at the Mugello, took his first pole position of the season taking everyone by surprise by beating two former MotoGP Gresini riders, Toni Elias and Alex De Angelis to the top of the grid in the Moto2 qualifying session.

Iannone on his new fluorescent green livery Speed Up bike with the FTR chassis, that weighs one kilo more than the previous livery, stopped the clock at 1′55.598 leaving Toni Elias off by 0.260s and Alex De Angelis who has yet to complete a race this season in third and a massive 0.624s off of Iannone’s pole position.

Jules Cluzel took a fourth spot, completing the front row. On the second row in fifth will be Shoya Tomizawa who managed his best time at the end of the session and is second in the standings, 18 points behind points leader Toni Elias. Taking sixth was Sergio Gadea, who was the fastest in this morning’s practice. Iannone’s team mate, Gabor Talmacsi took seventh, with a big crash that took him out of the front row.
