The BMW S 1000RR made a surprise visit during the Jerez MotoGP weekend. The new superbike was being used as safety bike and will be officially unveiled during the Monza round of the World Superbikes May 8th -10th.
Paddock babes from Jerez. It looks like LCR Honda’s Playboy Bunnies are a big hit and getting as much attention as the Rizla girls usually do. The guy in the pic with Loris Capirossi is Keith Flint, lead singer of The Prodigy and his wife Mayumi acted as
Capirossi’s brolly girl.
As usual Rizla Suzuki rider Chris Vermeulen personally tells us about his race at Jerez de la Frontera.

More from Sunday’s race at Jerez.
Valentino Rossi - Fiat Yamaha -1st
“This is a wonderful victory because yesterday we were really quite worried! I couldn’t ride how I wanted to and it was very hard. We had to work all together to understand how to fix the problem and finally we made a big change to try to make the bike feel how I like in the corner, which worked, so I have to say a huge thank you to Jeremy and all my guys. This morning we could tell immediately that things were much better and then we made a couple more small changes after warm-up, which made my M1 and my Bridgestone tyres feel even better. The race was long and quite hard – I lost some time getting past Lorenzo at the start and then I had a good battle with Stoner, which I enjoyed. After that I wasn’t so fast and I couldn’t close the gap to Pedrosa for a while; he was very quick but finally things improved and I was able to catch and pass him. It’s great to win again and especially here in Jerez, which I love. It’s ten years since I made the joke with the toilet here and so I thought it would be funny to do it again if I won – I liked that a lot! Now I hope that the changes we’ve made here will help us for the rest of the season. Thanks again to everyone!”
Dani Pedrosa - Repsol Honda - 2nd
“It is quite amazing because I didn’t expect to be on the podium.I knew that the Yamaha riders would be very, very strong here, and we are not even really ready to get these results yet so that’s why I’m surprised and my team are also surprised. We are all very happy. Last week was just unbelievable, but this result also, because of being on the podium here in front of my fans. I had the opportunity to win. In Motegi it was different but here I was leading the race so I’m very pleased,” he added. We know that we have some problems and some issues that we would like to improve on, but after the difficult winter we had we have to be calm and move forward slowly.”
Casey Stoner - Marlboro Ducati - 3rd
“After all these years this is my first time on the podium at Jerez so it has been a long time coming – I’ve had plenty of opportunities in the past but I’ve been unlucky and made mistakes, so this tastes really sweet. Today I wasn’t nervous about the race at all because to be honest I went into it thinking that I didn’t have a chance of finishing on the podium. We knew Dani, Valentino and Jorge all had a better pace than us so we took a bit of a gamble with the setting to try and find an extra edge and it paid off, so I have to thank the team for that. I got a great start and I was running right up there with Dani in the early stages but I started to lose the front in a few corners. When Valentino came I tried to hold him off as best as I could but when he came past me the second time I decided to try and stay behind him, to see if he could take me with him to Dani. Unfortunately from that point I was losing the front even more often and there was one place in particular where I was almost crashing every lap. When Jorge started to close in I honestly thought it was ‘game over’ but I kept pushing to try and at least take the battle to the final laps. It was just getting to the point where I was going to have to back off because I was risking a crash, but Jorge solved that problem for me! I couldn’t believe my luck but I think we deserved it though because the whole team has worked incredibly hard all weekend and I could not have given more in the race. It is only third place but it feels even better than the win in Qatar.”

In front of over 123,000 Spanish fans at Jerez, Valentino Rossi took his first victory of the season and headed to the top of the standings chart with 11 points over 2nd place Casey Stoner.
After yesterday’s qualifying, where a very upset Italian was 0,7s off the pole from his team mate Jorge Lorenzo and claiming that he couldn’t win this race, started fourth on the grid, and when the lights went out, Dani Pedrosa powerhoused his Honda to the lead trailed by Casey Stoner and Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi.
Rossi passed Lorenzo on lap two and then went off to hunt down Stoner who was already a second ahead. Little by little over the next five laps, Rossi gained on the Aussi rider and on the 7th lap overtook Stoner. Stoner fought back but was again overtaken and then out of the running.

MotoGP seems to be imitating F1 in more ways than one. Bridgestone, the single tire supplier in MotoGP, is now colouring tire rims, green for who is using the soft tire and red for the hard tire.
At the moment it’s only an experiment for television audiences, but paddock gossip is already saying that these could lead to misleading information and cheating, and how the rules would eventually have to be modified to sanction wrong behaviour.
MotoGP leader, Jorge Lorenzo got his first pole position of the season in yesterday’s qualifying in Jerez. Displaying that he’s already learned everything about Bridgestone tires, the Spaniard set a blazing lap of 1m 38.933s, with Dani Pedrosa second just 0,051s from Lorenzo. Casey Stoner was 3rd but almost 5 tenths from the leader and Valentino Rossi in difficulty, was more than 7 tenths of second from his teammate Lorenzo. Many riders complained about the wind that was disturbing their runs.

“It’s amazing to have the pole position here again, in my home country. Riding at this track is extra special for a Spanish rider and I felt a great motivation today. Yesterday we had some problems and I was a bit worried but we have worked well in the team and today we managed to resolve everything so that I could ride my Yamaha just how I wanted to. I felt very comfortable and I hope that this will be the same for the race. We’re starting in the best possible position; I know it will be hard tomorrow because everyone is close but I feel confident that we can fight to be on the podium again, as at the last two races. I hope it’s a bit less windy tomorrow though!”
Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda) 2nd
I’m happy because we’ve improved a lot from yesterday and we’re starting from the front row. This is always important - but especially at my home race,” said Pedrosa, who had been just tenth fastest on Friday, but put an RC212V in P1 for the first time this year in Saturday morning practice. It was very windy this afternoon which made it quite difficult to ride with a consistent line and keep the rhythm on the bike, but still, my pace was good and I’ll go into the race with a lot of confidence.
We still have some work to do to improve our set-up for the race but I’m happy with how we’ve progressed so far this weekend. Tomorrow is the important day though. There will be a lot of fans out there supporting me and the team and I really hope I can get a good result for them. If I get a start like I did at Motegi then that will help!”

Valentino Rossi set the fastest time in the first free practice session at Jerez yesterday, Loris Capirossi was 2nd just 0,364 behind the Fiat Yamaha. Casey Stoner lapped third fastest, and championship leader Jorge Lorenzo 4th, 0.794s slower than his team-mate.

“Today there’s no prize, like at the test here, but anyway it’s really good for our work to start in such a positive way. During the first two races we’ve had a couple of small problems and today we made a change in our setting in order to improve things and straight away we could see it was working. I could ride how I wanted with both the soft Bridgestone tyre and the hard one, and I was the fastest for the whole session. It’s very hot today, which is for sure better than the rain of recent races but it means if it’s like this on Sunday then the race will be quite hard on the tyres, so tomorrow we need to concentrate on refining our setting to help them as much as possible.”
Loris Capirossi (Rizla Suzuki) 2nd
“It was not too bad today, but we still have a lot of work to do. We still have a bit of a problem with getting the right tyres for here. We have already used the hardest tyre we have - but it is not hard enough for us! We will have to adjust the bike a bit so that we use a bit less tyre.”
