Call us vain, but even when riding we women like to look good and this Iris jacket designed specifically as a women’s motorcycle garment from Ixon fits the bill both in terms of fashion and safety. Ixon jackets describes this model as a “roadster retro” look that can be worn in all seasons thanks to its waterproof inserts and its removable winter lining.
The waterproof inserts are made from Drymesh breathable fabric, while the overall Spytech material is soft and flexible enough for good movement. Extra padding and protection is included around the shoulders and elbows and there is some back protection which can be removed and replaced with a full back body armour sheath. The sleeves are slightly formed already, and the zippers are covered with flaps while the wrist closure is a press stud button.
The Ixon Iris women’s motorcycle jacket also has plenty of cubby holes for all our gear, including five pockets. The retro look comes from patches on the front and the sleeve stripes come in black and red or black and white. The winter lining is a quilted look in purple or red. The jacket comes in either black or white and costs about €139.

This is for those hardcore motorcyclists who will brave extreme weather conditions in order still to ride in the winter months. Spidi has revealed its Comforce winter motorcycle clothing collection, including a range of under garments fit for chilly temperatures. The thermal underwear range is called Airstop and is available for both men and women. It’s made from Coolmax fabric with external stitching and elasticised inserts.
The Balaclava H2Out is to wear under the helmet and includes a waterproof lining and internal soft lining to keep heat in. As its name suggests, its breathable and antiperspirant despite the waterproofing. Last but not least, as a complete barrier to the cold, the Comforce range includes the Techno Plus suit with Windout membrane, Soft Shell elasticised material and sweater-style wrists to keep out the cold and wind. It’s light and soft and can be worn under other layers as well. Check out the Spidi website for more details.

Icon is a motorcycle clothing and accessories company with an edgy, clever way of presenting itself. That’s a very boring introduction to a company with such street-smart, savvy marketing but that is probably the closest we can get to a standard definition. Icon makes motorcycle-specific jackets, helmets, pants, gloves and footwear, and has a lifestyle clothing range as well. If you want a jacket with a big fat Suzuki ‘S’ on it, they’ve got one. If you want something with studs and a skull and crossbones, they’ve got that too (called ‘Victory Metal God’). And if you’re a girl, they’ve got some fantastic women’s motorcycle gear meaning you can make as much of a statement as your riding partner.
With a blog, and Twitter, MySpace and Facebook pages, Icon knows what they’re doing when it comes to marketing and social media. Check out this Icon video episode from the Slabtown Chronicles, showing that they’re way more than just a gear manufacturing company. Icon is more like a media machine with a motorcycle focus, and we like what we see. The animated video is violent but kind of ironic, too. See it after the jump and check out the Icon website for more info on the company.
