According to reports on the internet, Honda is considering importing its VFR1200F sports tourer model to India, but as a completely built unit which attracts a 110% duty. Honda already has a strong presence on the Indian market, in a country that loves its two-wheels models, but unless Honda can bring down the original cost of the VFR1200F, we can only imagine that Bollywood movie stars will be the only ones buying.
A Honda source has said: “Honda’s Indian arm will be launching the model in a CBU format and will be pricier than its existing imported bikes like Fireblade, etc.” According to some comments on the web, the VFR1200F would be out of the price range of middle-class Indians, although enthusiasm for the bike in the reports is apparent. We wonder if Honda, after negative reports in Europe and the US of its VFR1200F, is not trying to pass it off onto another market, whose riding conditions may not be the best environment for such a model. Or could this be a good opportunity for Honda to start manufacturing parts in India…? We’ll have to wait and see.
