Motorcycle movies: Ghost Rider Spirit of Vengeance trailer

By Alison

Now, not having seen the first Ghost Rider flick, I can’t really comment on whether the trailer to the sequel Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance looks like it’s going to be any good. Comments over on Motorbiker are that the first “B” film is being followed faithfully by another “B” film, unless we’ve dropped a letter to “C”. Still as one guy says, you can’t get much better (or trashier?) than pissing fire.

In any case, the second Ghost Rider film features a flaming Yamaha V-Max in what is probably some expensive product placement, and Nicolas Cage who has just become our favourite B movie actor. Lots of firey skulls and stuff to check out in the trailer, and see the pics below for what the V-Max looks like when it’s not running around, armageddon style (although you can see why it’s the right kind of bike for the movie).

Jet engine dragster Suzuki Gladius in Priest

By Alison

The new sci-fi film Priest based on a Koren graphic novel features a Suzuki Gladius racing around a post-apocalyptic world, taking a renegade warrior priest to save his neice, who has been abducted by vampires. More special effects than weird plot, the Suzuki Gladius is virtually unrecognisable, but was created by Cinema Vehicle Services and Ghostlight Industries for the film.

The model is designed as a superfast, jet-engine style motorcycle dragster and MCN quotes director Scott Stewart as saying: “There was sort of an idea that the Priest bike was like the weapons that are being handed to an elite force… we wanted these bikes to feel like you’re sitting on a jet engine.”

Check out the trailer to see how the Gladius got transformed.

Catwoman stunt double rides the Batpod

By Alison

There is some discussion in this video at the beginning as to whether the girl onboard the Batpod is Anne Hathaway or not, but we reckon probably not. The new Batman film - The Dark Knight Rises - will feature Hathaway as Catwoman, but it looks like the stunt double gets to ride around in manufactured snow this time. The Batpod is clearly not an easy vehicle to ride - and the stunt woman’s hair in the way isn’t helping things - but there are a few shots for the guys in this one. Oh, and this is possibly the Batpod back to work after the Catwoman stunt managed to ride through a camera crew at one stage in shooting, but any videos of that have since disappeared. In the video above there are nearly three minutes of stunt woman in black leathers riding (or attempting to), the Batpod so…. have a look.

Harley-Davidson Captain America motorcycle

By Alison

In creating the new Captain America film based on the vintage comics from the World War II era, film producers went to American legends Harley-Davidson for the right kind of military motorcycle for the superhero. The result is a Harley-Davidson Captain America custom based on a Cross Bones model. The challenge was to recreate a WLA military bike and we think they’ve done quite a fine job.

Autoblog reports that the Cross Bones model was the closest HD could get to an accurate period piece given its spring mounted saddle for a solo rider and springer fork. In the video above you can see more of how they created the bikes for the Captain American film, plus some action shots of the superhero himself riding around on a Harley-Davidson.

Dennis Hopper 1936-2010 R.I.P.

By Toni M.

dennis hopper

Dennis Hopper who rose to fame when he starred in, directed, and co-wrote the script for the 1969 cult classic road movie Easy Rider died yesterday at age 74 after succumbing to prostrate cancer.

The eclectic Hopper was not only an actor, screenwriter, and director, but was also a prolific sculptor, photographer, and painter, but for any motorcycle aficionando, Hopper will always be remembered for his role as Billy, the hippie drug dealer.

We would like to remember Dennis Hopper with the opening scene of Easy Rider, so hit the jump.

Ducati 916 road race video

By Alison

Crappy film, good bike, is about what we can say of this Ducati 916 road race from the film Fled (which can hardly be described as a motorcycle movie, but it fits our purpose for today). Talking of the film, it was made in 1996 starring Lawrence Fishburn and Stephen Baldwin. Which puts it at the heyday of the Ducati 916, and its first victory back in 1994 with Carl Fogarty onboard. Despite the apparent problems of trustworthiness, Ducati lost the World Superbike constructors title only once, in 1997. The video is clearly not any kind of riding we’d like to attempt on a road with traffic but hell, we can pay homage to another lovely Ducati.

Norton Commando "Vampire"

By Toni M.

Near Dark, From Dusk to Dawn or Blade maybe be the usual and somewhat gory vampire movies, but they’re nothing like this 1990 British horror/black commedy flic where the gas guzzling, excuse me, blood sucking vampire is a Norton Commando.

Too bad Buffy the Vampire Slayer wasn’t around in those days.

Sexy bikers: Megan Fox on Transformers 2 set

By Alison

megan-fox-transformers-2

This pic of Megan Fox relaxing on a motorcycle comes from the set of “Transformers: Revenge of the fallen”. I was going to ask what kind of bike it is, but I suspect that’s a bit superfluous…

The best motorcycle movies: Easy Rider freedom

By Alison

As we’ve been talking about the best motorcycle movies, after The Great Escape, here’s a look at the cult classic Easy Rider. It’s a little stars and stripes nostalgia of a man who went looking for America…

The best motorcycle movies: The Great Escape motorcycle stunt

By Alison

Debate on Fireblades forum includes many rider and motorcycle topics, one of which is a classic: the best motorcycle movie ever. Opinions range from the beauty of the South American scenery in “Motorcycle Diaries”, to the hilarity of “Wild Hogs” and 1969 cult film “Easy Rider”.

But my favourite that came up was “The Great Escape” with Steve McQueen jumping a fence on a motorcycle. Another classic film mentioned with McQueen was “On Any Sunday“. “The Great Escape” is perhaps not a “motorcycle movie” in the strictest terms, but above we give you the trailer with the closing scenes of McQueen’s famous jump.
