Plates that change numbers: avoiding radars and speeding fines

By Alison

After our piece on the motorised numerplate to avoid speed radars which can be raised at the touch of a button, here is another piece of mischief designed to avoid radars. An intricate mechanised system on this Ducati enables the rider to change a number on the plate on command.

While at a distance, a rider could probably get away with this mechanism, but up close at a road block, it would be difficult to pull off. Thanks to giorgiogasss for the tip.

Video: motorcycle speed - motorcyclist filmed by policeman

By koen

The Sussex Police Motorcycle Brigade filmed a motorcyclist riding in excess of 140 mph (225 km/h). The rider pleaded guilty to a charge of dangerous riding and was heavily sentenced by a British judge to a two year suspended prison sentence, 240 hours unpaid work and disqualified from driving for two years.

I can ‘t find a good reason why the policeman did not stop the rider earlier, because even the policeman was taking unnecessary risks in the traffic. Our message to all riders is to look after your speed and yourself, ride safely, wear your safety protections, and keep on enjoying riding.

More speed controls in Belgium

By koen

The Belgian government is planning to measure the time a vehicle spends between two speedometers. From the beginning of next year a new project will start on the highway in the Belgian city of Gentbrugge.

The time spent by a vehicle between two digital speedometers (like the one in the picture) will be counted and calculated. Hard braking before the digital speedometer and driving faster in between will not be enough anymore to escape from your penalty.

Driving at a speed of 140 with your bike on the highway can cost you a minimum of €55. The maximum speed on most Belgian highways is 120.
