Gilles De Jong does a backflip with Marc Coma's rally bike (w/video)

By Toni M.

The Red Bull X-Fighters event in Madrid, Spain saw another special trick, backflipping Marc Coma’s winning KTM 450 rally bike.

The honours of doing the trick went to FMX rider Gilles De Jong of Belgium who after seeing Coma freestyling on the dunes of Abu Dhabi, practiced the stunt on the 140kg bike for two months before showing it to an enthusiastic Spanish audience and the world.

“I have to take my hat off to Gilles. Never in my wildest dreams would I have tried that. I’m glad my bike is still in good shape!” said an impressed Coma who was on hand.

While De Jong, who is the only rider in the world that has gained FIM World Championship points in 4 motorcycle disciplines. Motocross, Supercross, Supermoto and Freestyle said, “You can’t really compare the handling with an FMX bike. You really need to work it hard. Marc was a lot of help during the preparations. He showed me in Dubai in April that it was possible to do tricks with a rally bike. I leaned out the window pretty far by betting that I could do a backflip on his bike!”

Red Bull X-Fighters scenes from Rome: Nate Adams wins

By Alison

US freestyle rider Nate Adams has won the Red Bull X-Fighters Rome stop, cementing his first place in the overall classification. He was followed on the podium by Andre Villa in second place and Josh Sheehan in third place. The riders will now go on to compete in Spain, Poland and Australia and there’s no doubt that the international following of this sport is increasing. Rome itself offers the biggest track of all the stops in the X-Fighters tour, and managed to build three consecutive large jumps for this year’s round. Check out the Red Bull X-Fighters video above with Nate Adams, and pics below.

Vespa stunts: pics and video from Nicola Campobbasso

Vespa stunts by Nicola Campobbasso

The Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour finished last Saturday in Rome and the Italians pulled Nicola Campobbasso out of their bag of tricks for the day. Nicola is also known as the ‘impennatore’ or ‘wheeler’ in the sense of one-wheel stunts, and is particularly famous for the kind of Vespa stunts he can pull off on his bike. The photo above is definitely worth a photo of the day status.

Nicola was out to entertain the crowds with a few wheelies and some stunts with both wheels on the ground, but as it seems he’s capable of more, he let his imagination do the rest. After the jump is a video of the highlights of the final round of the world freestyle championships. We don’t actually get to see Nicola but for the rest…. did we mention the words show ponies?

X-Fighters Red Bull Cairo - Adam Jones Flies to Victory (w/video)

By Toni M.

Under the stars of the Egyptian night with a spectacular backdrop of the Great Sphinx of the Giza plateau it was Adam Jones who emerged victorious against the best freestyle motocross riders from Europe, Asia, America and Australia in the Cairo round of the Red Bull 2010 X-Fighters World Tour.

The riders sailed 15 metres high and 30 metres in length but it was Jones who destroyed his 11 opponents’ dreams of victory by progressing all the way to the Final, where he tricked and flipped his way past the winner of the season opener in Mexico City, the Norwegian Andrè Villa, to win the event.

“This really is a dream come true for me. The conditions in Cairo weren’t easy, but my final run was perfect, and that meant the judges were then on my side,” grinned the 26-year-old.
