Roger Lee Hayden returns home and will race with MJM

By Toni M.

roger lee hayden

After just one very difficult learning year in the World Superbike series with the Pedercini team, Roger Lee Hayden will be returning back to the States and compete in 2011 AMA Pro Racing National Guard Superbike championship with Michael Jordan Motorsport Team.

Roger Lee is the youngest brother of the Hayden family and his team mate will be the newly signed Ben Bostrom. Unfortunately for Ben Spies, he’ll be losing his sometimes roommate (Hayden was based in Spies’ home in Italy) and occasional pool cleaner.

“I’m so excited to be a part of Team Jordan! These guys have a great crew and I’m excited to get on the bike as soon as possible. I’m ready to show what I’m made of… It’s also good to be home, there’s no place like home,” said Hayden.

“Signing Roger Lee bolsters our 2011 championship campaign,”
said Kreig Robinson, MJM’s Vice President of Corporate Relations. “We’re excited to get him testing on our equipment as soon as possible. We know that Roger Lee is going to bring the intensity and our crew is ready to unleash his potential.”

Hayden, Di Salvo and Noyes on Moto2 Indy test (w/video)

By Toni M.

Moto2 wildcards Roger Lee Hayden and Jason DiSalvo and Jack & Jones by A. Banderas Moto2 regular rider Kenny Noyes were at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway testing last Thursday and Friday preparing for the Red Bull Indianapolis GP that takes place next weekend.

This was Hayden’s third test on the American Honda Moto2 team’s Moriwaki MD600 after the Chuckwalla Valley Raceway and the Barber Motorsports tests, while Di Salvo, who after a partial season with the ParkinGo Triumph BE1 team in World Supersport championship was called in to wildcard just ten days ago, and is backed by GP Tech in Moto2 and using the FTR M210 owned by the Canadian FOGI Racing Team operation.

Noyes used a Kawasaki ZX-6R, due to the FIM rules that prevent contracted riders from testing on their race bikes outside of official series tests, unless they want to be fined and banned from the first free practice like Toni Elias at Brno.

Randy de Puniet okay after surgery

By Toni M.

randy de puniet

Randy de Puniet underwent surgery last night at the Harmannsdorf hospital to pin his fractured left leg tibia and fibula that he injured in yesterday’s Sachsenring race.

The 2-hour surgery was organized by Doctor Costa together with Doctor Ulf Schendel medical equipe with good results. The 29-year-old now has a big titanium rod in his leg to support the fracture and will leave the hospital tomorrow to start his recovery period with the Clinica Mobile Staff.

De Puniet said : “As riders we always risk crashing and breaking something, but it’s always when you are not thinking about crashing that you do. After the crash when Kalio involuntarily hit my leg I immediately understood that I had a serious problem. But the surgery went very well and now I am feeling better. I want to thank Doctor Costa and all the medical staff here for the good job they did. They say that I need 6 weeks recovery period to start racing again but I will try my best to be back in Brno”.

To replace the injured French rider in this weekend’s Laguna Seca GP, LCR Honda has called in WSBK rider Roger Lee Hayden as we anticipated this morning. The decision was make in conjuction with American Honda as confirmed by Lucio Cecchinello, the team manager.

“I have been a rider for a while and injured myself several times so I understand Randy’s condition and feelings. I am still here with him at the Hospital and Doctor Costa and Doctor Ulf are very confident of his recovery. He is a tough rider and I am confident he will be back soon. After yesterdays bad news we had a meeting with Randy and Honda to take a decision for the following race. Despite this unfortunate experience we decided to go on with our job and we agreed to replace Randy for the US GP. Thanks to the cooperation from Nicky Hayden and Kevin Schwantz, we went for the best choice: Roger Lee Hayden. He has plenty of experience at Laguna Seca race track and we will do our best to support him”.

To work with Kevin, who is a friend and a champion, on a project that American Honda is supporting, it was a given that I was honored to be asked to create the graphics. This assignment has been particularly special to me because for a long time I have wanted to create a theme that focused on the stars and stripes of the USA, which turns out to be the perfect match for this project. It is a very exciting opportunity and a project that will be of the highest level.

Roger Lee Hayden Interview

By Toni M.

Roger Lee Hayden debuted this year on the international racing scene with the Team Pedercini and after three rounds of the World Superbike championship, Jonathan Green of OnTheThrottle TV got around to interview the American rider at Assen to see how he’s faring.

Hayden talks about his team, about Ben Spies and how his fellow countryman is helping adjust to living in Italy, AMA racing and his brother Nicky and where he would like to be two years from now.

At Assen Hayden finished in 19th in Race 1 and 16th in Race 2 and here’s what he had to say after the races:

“Race one wasn’t my best race. I made some small mistake and I was not able to find the right concentration and the good rhythm. For race two my technicians made some modification to my bike’s setting and I was able to make up some places from my grid position. It’s been a difficult weekend and it’s been clear we didn’t have the pace of the front runners, but we’ve found out how to make the bike better and this is very important in view of the next races”.

WSBK: Matteo Baiocco signs with Team Pedercini

By Toni M.

matteo baiocco

After being linked to race for DFX, Matteo Baiocco has instead signed a deal with Italian run Team Pedercini and will ride the Kawasaki ZX10R in this year’s World Superbike Championship.

The 26 year old Baiocco, who has experience in the Italian CIV and in Superbikes, last year was one of the unfortunates, who had to switch teams during the season, with the first part of the season riding for financially strapped PSG-1 Corse and with Guandalini Racing in the final rounds.

Baiocco will team up with WSBK rookie Roger Lee Hayden, who got his first taste of WSBK testing at Portimao in January, but was almost dead last in the unofficial test times while on his learning curve, getting used to the new track, new tires and overcoming the language barrier.

Roger Lee Hayden won’t be heading to Moto2 in 2010, but will debut in the World Superbike Championship on a Kawasaki with Team Pedercini..

Roger Lee is the youngest of the Hayden brothers and has raced in the AMA Superspsort and Superbike class He placed second in the AMA 600 Supersport class to his brother Tommy in 2004 and 2005 and in 2006 was nominated Rookie of the Year and in 2007 won AMA Supersport Championship.

Roger Lee Hayden:

“I’m really happy to compete in the World Superbike championship with team Pedercini. I always wanted to join a team in World Superbikes and now this dream has come true. I know it will be a completely different experience compared to my past, but I feel ready to face this new challenge. I’ve already ridden the Kawasaki AMA Superbike so everything won’t be completely new to me. It will be fun and exciting racing and learning new circuits, apart from my home race in Salt Lake at Miller Motorsports Park. My first contact with my new team will be at Portimao late January and really can’t wait to get back on a bike.”
