After adding a fifth win in the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge to his already massive array of winning trophies, which include the Dakar Rally 3 times, the Rallye des Pharaons-Egypt, the Rally ORPI of Morocco, the Rally of las Pampas in Argentina, Marc Coma took to the Abu Dhabi desert for some fun and games with free-styler and X-Games winner Ronnie Renner.
Renner who also holds world record for a step-up on a motorcycle and one for the highest jump (Air) in a quarterpipe, was on hand to watch Coma jump his rally prepared KTM 450, a distance of 15-meters and 6-meters high and afterwards the two even switched bikes.
“Normally, for us the important thing is keeping the bike in contact with the ground. The speed is what matters. That’s why it’s not usual for Rally riders to be jumping these heights and distances. Compared to a Freestyle bike, my bike weighs about a dozen kilos more than this. The tank alone can hold 40 liters,” said Coma.
A suitable impressed Renner said, “That was really an eye-opener! I was able to take a spin on Marc’s bike and I’ve got to admit I must have looked pretty awful. The speed is incredible and the handling compared to a Freestyle bike is extremely hard. Taking this jump on a KTM Rally bike is phenomenal.”

Key to Ronnie Renner’s world record of the highest jump achieved on a motorcycle, is a thing called the “whip”. Described by MCN as “the way you generate both the horizontal momentum necessary to reach the landing ramp and, and to get the bike to describe the highest arc”. Here’s a little tutorial for you.
Ronnie Renner does it again and breaks his own Guinness World Record for the highest motorcycle jump off a quarterpipe.
During the Red Bull High Rise event in Chicago on Saturday, Renner, a professional freestyle motocross athlete launched himself 63 feet, 5 inches above ground, eclipsing the world record he set last year.
“It’s been crazy. I’m so pumped to have done it,” Renner said afterward. “What a killer vibe! All these people coming out to see me and they were psyched. I could hear the crowd cheering.”
Guinness World Records certified Renner’s highest jump, which was officially measured from the top of the 22-foot quarterpipe wall as 41 feet, 5 inches from the top of the ramp. That placed him 63 feet, 5 inches above ground.
After our tiny jump, check out Renner’s 2008 world record video, where he did 59′2″ above the ground on the Santa Monica Pier.

This time maybe even Freestyle legend Travis Pastrana was left with his mouth open after seeing this video. This is real heart-in-your-mouth stuff by Ronnie Renner, at Santa Monica, who broke the record for the highest motorcycle jump in the world, reaching 59.2 feet, or 18.044 metres.
The 20,000 fans at the Red Bull Experiment couldn’t believe it. This height has never before been achieved, and Red Bull is obviously cementing its place in the world of extreme sports where Freestyle has brought some unexpected success.
Renner had planned five jumps, but after reaching 54.7 feet, decided to go for a final jump, which has now entered the Guinness book of recods. He said “It was perfect, and I still can’t believe I jumped so high. It doesn’t seem real that so many fans came here to support me. I tried the final jump for them - it was everything or nothing. And I did it.”
