Yamaha MotoGP Team Launch at Sepang

By Toni M.

yamaha presentation

The official 2010 Fiat Yamaha Team launch will take place at the Sepang circuit on February 4th at 10 in the morning (local time) before the official MotoGP tests that kick off on the same day.

It will be an old style presentation directly from the track, completely different compared to last year’s very successful on-line presentation with double interviews that were done at Yamaha headquarters at Gerno di Lesmo.

There’ll be the usual photos of the M1 with it’s 2010 livery, a press conference with the first impressions of the new bike by Yamaha riders Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo and interviews with team managers Davide Brivio and Wico Zeelenberg, who replaced Daniele Romagnoli and Yamaha’s head honcho Lin Jarvis.

MotoGP: First test day for Kawasaki

By koen

It was a successful first day of testing for the Kawasaki MotoGp team in Phillip Island as the three-day testing programme started with perfect conditions. The Kawasaki riders and test rider Olivier Jacque will ride more than 1000 Km on this day only.

Marco Melandri will work with the suspension engineers to improve the front and Jacque will concentrate on the revised chassis and the new electronic package. For Hopkins was it a painful day. His fractured ankle from his crash at Assen from June is fixed with a plate but still giving problems. He worked with his new chief Naoya Kaneko to improve laptimes.

Olivier Jacque, test rider and development rider said: “Today we’ve focused on evaluating a new chassis on the Ninja ZX-RR, with positive results. We’re also working with a revised electronics package on the bike, which gives us more options for fine-tuning the power delivery characteristics, and again the initial results have been positive.”

All the data from these three days will be collected and will be used for the Kawasaki development programme for 2009, when the Ninja ZX-RR will perform for the first time at Sepang in February.

MotoGP Malaysia: results

Valentino Rossi has gained his ninth win of this season and 150 podium places throughout his career, in winning the MotoGP at Sepang. With temperatures in excess of 40 degrees Valentino started the race at second position. At mid-race distance he was able to pass the Spanish Pedrosa on the brakes into the hairpin and was unchallenged to the chequered flag, crossing the line 4.008 seconds ahead of Pedrosa and Dovizioso.

Valentino Rossi said: “I am so happy with this win today because all of the toughest championships of my career, including with Yamaha in 2004, have been won with nine victories. Of course that doesn’t mean I don’t want to win again next week, but for now I like this number! Today was incredibly hard because it was so hot. Once I got behind Dani I tried to pass many times but he was very fast and very consistent and I had a good battle to get by him.

“Lap-by-lap I understood better where it was possible and eventually I could make my move and go away from him. Everything worked very well today in such conditions, my M1 and my Bridgestone tyres and I want to thank everyone for making me so fast all weekend.”

MotoGP Malaysia: preview from the Fiat Yamaha Team

By koen

A second place in Australia for Valentino Rossi, who has already been crowned as new World Champion 2008 has almost concluded a glorious MotoGP season for the Fiat Yamaha Team, though the Malaysia round in MotoGP will be important for the team.

Valentino Rossi’s teammate Jorge Lorenzo would like to be back on the podium: “I’m looking forward to arriving in Malaysia and going to a quite a fast circuit, which I like and where most importantly we’ve tested already this year and things didn’t go badly.

We’ve scored decent results over the last four races so I’m optimistic going into the final two rounds of my rookie MotoGP season. I’ll be training hard this week to stay in good shape and finish off a positive trip around the Pacific.”

MotoGP Malaysia: racetrack information

All MotoGP fans will get the opportunity to meet all the MotoGP riders on Saturday in Malaysia, in a special meet-the-riders and autograph session organised by the Sepang International Circuit and Dorna.

“Yes, you will be meeting all the MotoGP riders and yes, you can expect a huge crowd; based on our experience last year. My advice will be for fans to come very, very early as Dorna has only allocated 30 minutes due to time constraints,” said Ismadi Ishak, project manager for the 2008 Polini Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix.

The Sepang MotoGP track is 5,542 meters long and min. 16 meters width. The longest straight is 927.543 meters and the Lap Record was set by Max Biaggi in 2002 with his MotoGP Yamaha at 2:04.925.

MotoGP Malaysia: preview Ducati Team

By koen

The Ducati Marlboro MotoGP team is traveling this time to Malaysia for the next round of the championship. Livio Suppo, the MotoGP Director from the Ducati Team is hopeful to get good results, Ducati’s winter test went well and Casey and Marco both have good past records at the track.

Casey Stoner, 2nd in the championship on 245 points gives his preview: “Over the last few rounds we’ve managed to set a good pace in all of the dry practice sessions and struggled a little bit in the wet. We think we found a good wet setting in Australia so unless there’s an unexpected problem that crops up we should be okay for any conditions at Sepang. I like the track and I’ve got good memories because I’ve won there in every category - 125cc, 250cc (2004 and 2005) and MotoGP. The track is a good mix, there are some fast corners with a lot of lean angle and some tight ones that aren’t much fun. We’ll give our best to finish the season in a positive way, with some good results, although to be honest my mind is on the test at the end of the season at Valencia, when we can start to work on the new Desmosedici.”

Teammate, the Italian Marco Melandri, 16th in the championship and with 51 points said: “The last few races have been really difficult and I’m obviously disappointed because I wanted to end the season with a run of decent results. Anyway, the only way thing to do is to consider each race as an individual event and start from zero. So I’ll try to do that in Malaysia, where I had a good race last year and finished on the podium.”
