ioda racing

Last season LCR Honda revealed its colours at the Venice Casinò and this year it was IodaRacing’s turn to present both their MotoGP CRT and Moto2 teams that will be sponsored by Italian company Came who recently signed a two-year deal with Dorna to supply security gates.

Danilo Petrucci as we already know, will be Ioda’s MotoGP rider while Simone Corsi will continue with the team in Moto2, and Luigi Morciani will be racing in the new Moto3 category under the banner of Team Italia FMI with Ioda machines.

According to Giampiero Sacchi his current racing projects cost 4,5 million euros - 3,3 million for MotoGP and 1,2 million for Moto2, which Came will be supporting with 4 million euros in two years.

Danilo Petrucci who will be riding CRT Ioda TR003 with an Aprilia RSV4 engine and a Ioda steel trellis chassis said, “It’s a great satisfaction to make my MotoGP debut at the age 21 and also with a completely new bike. I have a top class team, which showed from the first test and this makes me feel much more comfortable for the season ahead. The goal is to stay with the top CRT competitors.”

Simone Corsi who Sacchi believes has the same talent as Marc Marquez and Andrea Iannone said,”It’s my second year with the team and we’ve been working well and improving the FTR over the winter. This is a positive sign that in 2012 we can be among those in contention for the title.”

Moto2 Estoril: Simone Corsi and Jules Cluzel fastest in weather hampered test

By Toni M.

jules cluzel

From sunny Valencia, to rainy and windy Estoril, more than thirty Moto2 riders are currently in Portugal for another three-day test session that saw the morning session more or less a washout.

However in the afternoon the track started to dry out and the riders headed out, but the unofficial lap times were in the high bracket with Simone Corsi (Ioda Racing) and Jules Cluzel (Forward Racing) who suffered a harmless crash, posting the identical lap time of 1’43.9.

The third best time went to Alex de Angelis, who was just a tenth slower with his MotoBI/TSR mounting new Ohlins forks. The Sammarinese was followed Scott Redding and Kenan Sofuoglu who returned to action with his Technomag CIP team, after the death of his father last week. Sufuoglu and Redding also posted identical lap times.

Corsi’s team mate Mattia Pasini was sixth, while Claudio Corti and Mika Kallio, still slightly hampered by his recent shoulder surgery were seventh and eighth respectively.

The test also saw the debut of Xavier Simeon on the third Tech3 bike.

Moto2: Simone Corsi Interview

By Toni M.

simone corsi

Simone Corsi currently rides in Team JiR Moto2 and has taken the Motobi chassis to two third place finishes and is sixth in the world championship with 65 points The 22 year old Italian who debuted full time in GP racing in 2003, answered some questions about the new Moto2 class and his season so far.

What’s your impression on the new category Moto2?

It is very interesting, for a rider, being aware that all competitors have the same engine. In terms of performance all the bikes are level, but the frame and suspension every rider must make his own interpretation of his machine. What is concerning me is that I try to tighten my cornering which is pretty important with how our bike performs.

We have seen several riders that have been competitive and then not so competitive at different tracks, what’s your interpretation of this?

The combination of frame and track is determinant on performance. This I believe is the main reason of the ‘up and down’ results. A good set up and efficient interpretations of the lines around the track can help you be fast.

Moto2 Mugello: Andrea Iannone Romps Away with Win

By Toni M.

andrea iannone

Andrea Iannone surprise pole position in yesterday’s qualifying session at the Mugello was no fluke because the Italian rider literally romped away with the first flag to flag victory in Moto2 and his first of the season.

Iannone who hails from the Abruzzo region, took command of the race and at the end of the first lap had 1.5s lead that doubled after just three laps and with more than a seven second advantage, administered the rest of his race and cruised under the chequered flag.

Second and third place on the podium went Sergio Gadea and Simone Corsi, but it was a battle royale, with Corsi fighting through the field from his 26th spot on the grid and at least six different riders all leading the group in different moments of the race but Gadea went by Corsi on the final turn and denying the Italian the second spot by just 0.035s and Corsi denying Thomas Luthi third by a mere 0.015s.

Toni Elias, the current points leader managed a fifth finish, but kept Shoya Tomizawa, his nearest rival in sixth place and gained one extra point against the Japanese rider.

By Toni M.

toni elias

Moto2 at Le Mans began with 41 riders on the starting grid, but only 29 racers survived to make it to the chequered flag in a dramatic and crash filled first half of the race where Toni Elias took his second win of the season.

Alex Debon took the holeshot, but a hot riding Toni Elias came out of nowwhere and riding on the outside at the Dunlop turn took the lead, but in the back of the field with six or seven riders hitting turn one at the same time saw the first incident with Dominique Aegerter and Karel Abraham got the worst of it, going down on the track and luckily weren’t hit by the other oncoming riders.

At the end of the first lap Debon grabbed the lead only to be punished with a jump start penalty and on the fourth lap headed to the pit lane for his ride through. With Debon gone, the fight for first place was between Elias and Jules Cluzel and poleman Kenny Noyes, only to have Cluzel lowside as soon as he got the lead on lap 5. Kenny Noyes and Yuki Takahashi also crashed out of third and fourth on lap five.
