Mini Scooter E live pics

Just how good is the design of the new Mini Scooter E Concept? In a mix of Chinese and vintage style, the company has managed to squeeze as much Mini personality onto its two-wheeled concept as possible, as seen in these live pics of the E Scooter concept from the Paris motor show. Will we see it get to production? We’re not sure but what we can be sure of is that there is most likely a market for this new electric scooter.

The Mini Scooter E is very similar to the Smart eScooter in its functions and philosophy, but it’s got a lot more brand ‘oomph’ behind it. The Smart eScooter is what you’d expect your green business executive to go to work on. The Mini Scooter E has got a wider and quirkier appeal to it than that and can also cash in on what’s already a strong international brand.

The Mini Scooter E Concept is a plug-in electric scooter with Apple iPhone capability which substitutes (in the same as the Smart eScooter), the onboard instrument panel. The lack of any production details released at the 2010 Paris Motor Show disappoint us a little as we were ready to hail a new, environmental entry to the scooter market. But it could only be a matter of time before Mini develops this and in that case, we’ll be interested to see how its fortunes develop.

Smart eScooter live at 2010 Paris motor show

Smart eScooter and Smart eBike live pics

The Smart eScooter is considered one of the more ‘bizarre’ elements at the 2010 Paris Motor Show but for us on TwoWheels it makes sense for a brand like Smart to develop an electric scooter model. We’ll be bringing you pics of the Mini eScooter which is decidedly more interesting from a branding point of view than its rival Smart, but they’re both curious and well-designed models in their own right.

In the four-wheel segment, Smart is not exactly without worries at the moment and its cult status has been dented by the appearance of other competitors in the minicar/citycar sector. And so now it’s expanding with this eScooter model which is faithful to the Smart brand in both style and substance. It appears alongside the Smart eBike which is also an electric two-wheeled model, but is a bicycle instead.

Rather than the Smart eScooter being considered bizarre in itself, what is strange, and very telling, is that Smart’s world debut new models at the Paris Motor Show are both two-wheeled vehicles. And that is the extent of the brand’s new product at the show. Details on both the eScooter and eBike after the jump.

Mini E Scooter Concept

Check out the difference in style between the new Smart eScooter and the Mini electric scooter, also dubbed the E Scooter. In a mix of psychedelia and vintage, Mini seems to have the quirky thing going on in its scooter range and we wouldn’t be surprised to see these go into production and become popular.

In fact, looking at these official Mini E Scooter pics the adaptation of the world-famous Mini style might be just what the electric scooter market ordered to freshen things up and increase appeal. Even the name suggests what Mini is trying to do: there will be a Mini E, a British Racing Green version and a Mod Era version - you can’t get more obvious than that.

The Mini E Scooter concept will be presented at the 2010 Paris Motor Show at the same time as the Mercedes competitor, Smart eScooter will be presented. Both have a similar set-up with an electric motor in the rear wheel and Smartphone capability taking the place of an instrument panel. There’s not much more detail available yet but a preview event in London should give us more information. But just how seriously can we take this Mini E Scooter concept?

Smart eScooter

Here are the first pics of the Smart eScooter - the prototype electric scooter which will go on display at this year’s Paris motor show. It has a very prototype style about it at the moment but the design is not displeasing. The slogan for the moment is “intelligent urban mobility” but it should actually prove to have the performance capabilities of a classic 50cc despite our cynicism for fancy catch phrases.

A lithium ion battery pack feeds the motor with 5.4 hp and a top speed of 45 km/hr. Smart claims that its eScooter has a range of about 100 km and that recharge time takes between three and five hours. More concept features are photovoltaic panels and a kinetic energy recovery system activated when braking. These are the kind of elements we will probably see disappear if this eScooter goes into production.

Clearly some snazzy Smart technology has made its way onto the prototype model with ABS, airbag and Blind Spot Assist. We also get LED lights, 13-inch wheels and heated handlebars which sound pretty cool to me. The rest of the cool factor is delivered by the lack of instrumentation, designed to be replaced by any smartphone which can be plugged into the small dash to work as rev counter, speedometer or navigator.
