Helmet Assisted Radar Detector: US anti-radar system

By Alison

H.A.R.D. system antiradar The world’s a small place, and after we showed you Italy’s way of avoiding speed cameras, through mechanised number plates that can be raised automatically, America also comes to the fore with a more subtle device.

Manufacturer of motorcycle accessories, Legal Speeding Enterprises has developed H.A.R.D or the Helmet Assisted Radar Detector. This is pure genius - a wireless antenna connects to the antiradar network, and is equipped with an LED receiver. While measuring speed, the receiver lights up, alerting the rider.

You can buy the whole package on-line for $160 or the detector and transmittor can be purchased separately. Remember that in Italy it’s illegal to sell or use equipment that signals the presence of speed cameras so maybe just going a little slower more often is more convenient, not to mention safer.

Motorised mechanism that raises numberplate

video targa alzataThis week we’ve been looking at fines in Italy for motorcycling infringements. Riding with the number plate up is an old trick used by riders to escape speed cameras - but some have even gone beyond that. A rider, discovered by road patrol police, had actually installed an automatic mechanism with a control on the handle, that would raise the number plate on command.

A genius mechanism, but completely illegal, that you can see in the below video. The cunning rider had his circulation papers confiscated and received a painful fine.

Photo of the day: slide caught on speed camera

By Alison

Strano modo di farsi fotografare da un autovelox

This incredible photo is accompanied by an incredible story - a Dutch rider has been photographed by a speed camera in the middle of a fall and subsequent slide. The rider has the honour of having marked a record as the speed was about 137km/hr. Despite his broken hand we think he came off pretty lucky, having received no fine.

Thanks to Cheyenne for the note
