Gresini CRT team to get engines tuned by Ten Kate?

By Toni M.

ronald and gerrit ten kate

It was widely rumored that World Superbike and Supersport teams run by Ten Kate would be helping out MotoGP CRTs who would be running Honda CBR1000RR engines in 2012 and apparently these rumors are picking up steam, as it’s being reported that Fausto Gresini has turned to the high experienced Dutch team (they debuted in World Superbikes in 2004) to help them prepare and tune the 12 engines CRTs will be allowed to use next season.

The ten Kate family who also runs an exclusive Honda dealership in Nieuwleusen, Holland, will also supply Gresini’s team with a complete electronics package including the recently introduced fly-by-wire system that team had fitted during the Imola round after the Superbike rules changed.

Gresini’s CRT project will be using a chassis designed and built by FTR and has already decided on Michele Pirro as their rider, who incidentally rode for Hannspree Ten Kate Honda World Supersport team in 2010 finishing 5th overall before heading to Gresini’s Moto2 team in 2011.

Jonathan Rea to test Honda MotoGP bike at Sepang

By Toni M.

jonathan rea

Jonathan Rea will be getting a hot opportunity today and tomorrow, as the World Superbike Ten Kate Honda rider is scheduled to ride Casey Stoner’s MotoGP Honda in a special two day private test at Sepang organized by HRC.

The test has two basic aims, one to give Rea the opportunity to test a MotoGP bike, as the the Northern Irishman is tipped to be heading to MotoGP in 2012, which was probably one of the conditions for his remaining on a Honda in 2011, and two, give Honda the opportunity to carry out further testing while the current MotoGP testing ban is in place.

Not for the faint hearted, Jonathan Rea gets his pin pulled

By Toni M.

Ughh … if you’re not the squeamish type take a look at the length of the pin that the doctor pulls out of poor Jonathan Rea’s wrist.

Much better is this second video after the jump, where Rea talks about his scaphoid injury and thanks all the people involved in helping him and expects to back in form in time for the Phillip Island tests and the first round of the season, where he’ll meet his new Honda Ten Kate team mate Ruben Xaus.

Ten Kate Honda confirms Ruben Xaus

By Toni M.

ruben xaus

Just the other day we reported the rumor that Ruben Xaus was on the verge of signing a deal with Ten Kate Honda and we can now confirm that the Spaniard will officially be with the Dutch team next season.

Xaus despite being popularly considered as single-handedly keep the fairing industries in business, is one of the most experienced riders in the World Superbike scene and has won eleven races and been on the podium 35 times and in 2009 and 2010 raced for the BMW’s official Superbike team.

It’s difficult for me describe how happy I am that I will ride with the Ten Kate Honda team next season. For many years I have admired the passion and dedication that they bring to World Superbikes and I believe that they capture the essence of the championship,” said Xaus. “They run a successful Honda dealership in Holland and with the support of Honda Europe they manage a team that has some of the most skilled tuners and engineers. They have shown with all their world titles that they have the right blend of skill and desire. I know that I am capable of more SBK wins and I will bring all my racing experience, gained on many different types of machine, to help achieve more success with the Ten Kate Honda team. I would like to thank Gerrit, Ronald and all the guys Honda for the faith that they have shown in me and in my potential. I still have a lot of things I want to do in World Superbikes and I believe this team will allow me to achieve what we all aim for. It will begin with my first test with my new team at the end of this month and I cannot wait to start work.”

Ruben Xaus to ride for Ten Kate Honda?

By Toni M.

ruben xaus

Just last week at the EICMA show in Milan, Ruben Xaus who was attending the event, revealed that he was still searching for team to hook up with for the 2011 season, but MCN.com is now reporting a rumor regarding the aggressive, but amazingly crash prone Spaniard (HFL has decided that Xaus’s tendency towards weird crashes deserved a special dictionary meaning).

According to the British website, Xaus has reportedly signed with Ten Kate Honda’s WSBK team this week and will partner Jonathan Rea next season. The news of the deal should be released before the Portimao test at the end of the month.

WSBK: Jonathan Rea undergoes successful surgery

By Toni M.

jonathan rea

Jonathan Rea who underwent surgery on his injured left wrist Tuesday afternoon in the UK. The Honda Ten Kate rider who crashed during qualifying session at Imola, missed the Italian round and was able to take part only in race 1 at Magny-Cours finishing in 12th and skipping race 2 due to pain.

Specialist surgeon Mike Hayton repaired the ruptured ligament between the left scaphoid and lunar bones where the injury also detached part of both bones. Rea will return to his home on the Isle of Man today to begin his recuperation before returning to Manchester in a month’s time to have two supporting wires removed from the wrist.

“There was more damage than they first thought and the operation took about two hours instead of one. Basically, the ligament between the two bones was 100% ruptured and the two wires are designed to pull them together while the ligament meshes again. It certainly wasn’t how I wanted to finish my season, but I’m grateful to Mike Hayton for fitting in my operation before he went to host a seminar in the USA yesterday evening. I’ll get back into training as soon as I get home and focus on getting fit for testing for the 2011 World Superbike season.”

Ten Kate has yet to announce who they’ll be fielding as their second rider with several websites betting on the luckless former MotoGP and Moto2 rider Alex de Angelis to replace Max Neukirchner.

WSBK: Jonathan Rea in doubt for Magny Cours

By Toni M.

Jonathan Rea couldn’t take part in last Sunday’s World Superbike round at Imola and may not be able to contest in this weekend’s final round of the season at Magny Cours.

Rea crashed during a very wet Superpole session and partially fracturing his left collarbone and his left scaphoid he tried to check out his physcial condition during warm-up practice, but 2 laps in, crashed again, and then made the wise decision not to race.

The Nothern Irishman through his Twitter page reported the extent of his injuries which are a ruptured ligament between scaphoid and lunar bones and a disclocation of the acromioclavicular joint in his shoulder.

The Ten Kate Honda man has yet to decide whether to race this Sunday, but he may show up in France to see if he can ride his CBR1000 RR despite his injuries and defend tooth and nail his 3rd place in the standings from Carlos Checa (Althea Ducati) who is just fourteen points from Rea.

Jonathan Rea stays in Ten Kate Honda

By Toni M.

jonathan rea

Jonathan Rea was one of the riders involved in this year’s World Superbike silly season. The Northern Irishman was linked to BMW despite having an option of another year on his contract with the Ten Kate team, however these rumors have been laid to rest, because Rea and Ten Kate Honda have officially confirmed that he’ll be staying with the team in 2011.

Rea is currently third in the standings, with a double win at Assen, a win at the Brno and Nurburgring rounds and six other podiums this season.

“I’m really happy to be staying with this fantastic team for another season. We’re all pulling in the same direction and we’re all really excited about the prospects for the Honda CBR1000RR Even though I’m still only 23, the team has taught me an enormous amount about world championship racing, both on the track and off it and I’ve become a regular race winner. To become a championship winner, I recognise that I need continuity and that’s what I’ve got now. It’s no secret that my ultimate ambition is to compete in GPs but I’ll still only be 24 next season so I’m really happy to aim for the World Superbike title in 2011 and then hopefully take the next step forward after that within the Honda family.”

Max Neukirchner denies MotoGP move

By Toni M.

max neukirckner

Sportmediaset has struck out on the Max Neukirchner to MotoGP rumor.

Last week the Italian Studio Sport programme was reporting that the World Superbike Ten Kate Honda rider may have been heading to MotoGP with a new German backed team riding a Ducati, but these rumors have been officially squashed by Neukirchner himself.

Speaking with Motorsport Magazine, the German rider said: “Obviously, I’m honored that people are saying this about me. Unfortunately, the people behind such a project have not yet really contacted us, and we don’t know anything about it.”

Neukirchner has had a torrid 2010 season so far, unable to match team mate Jonathan Rea’s performances and very likely will not be reconfirmed in 2011, with James Toseland heavily tipped to be his replacement.

Testing a Ten Kate Honda Superbike on the Road (w/video)

By Toni M.

How lucky are journalists that get to test racing bikes? A lot we’d all say with an envious tone. Check out this awesome video by Motorcycle News tester who decided to take Jonathan Rea’s spare Honda CBR 1000RR Fireblade through it’s paces, but this time it wasn’t on the usual race track, but on the roads outside Ten Kate Honda’s team base in Holland.

Max Neukirchner's Superpole Crash at Portimao (w/video)

By Toni M.

The Hannspree Ten Kate racing team had mixed fortunes in last weekend’s World Superbike at Portimao. Max Neukirchner has this very scary crash during the Superpole session which left the German rider with a deep hole in his arm.

In race 1, Neukirchner DNF’d after a clutch malfunction, while his team mate Jonathan Rea took a 3rd place in race 1, but very unlucky in race 2 where his CBR1000RR suffered a technical issue and he had to pull out of the contention.

Hit the jump to see Jonathan Rea talk about his Portimao weekend.
