Guy Martin TT hedge

Things can get very hairy at the Isle of Man Tourist Trophy but this is one move from Guy Martin that sees him brushing a little too close to the native vegetation. Absolutely incredible.

Send your funny, bizarre or surprising pics to us and we’ll post them, with your name. We’d love to share what you guys find in the world of motorcycling! Send to: pics@twowheelsblog.com.

Check out Mark Neale’s new movie documentary Charge, chronicling the world’s first ever electric motorcycle race, the TTXGP, that took place at the 2009 Isle of Man’s Tourist Trophy. Neale is the director behind Faster which traces the story of the move from two-stroke 500cc GP racing to four-stroke bikes and the MotoGP.

Ewan McGregor gets to narrate, and the above trailer promises a fabulous movie. We get some high speed, on-board racing (Oh my God!!), the story of MotoCzysz and a great quote from Valentino Rossi: “There’s just one gear?” Check it out in the video trailer.

Honda: 50 years of racing and Soichiro Honda's TT declaration

By Alison

Honda 50 years racing

Honda is celebrating 50 years of racing history with a dedicated site including historic photographs and footage, and its initial 1954-1958 declaration to participate in the legendary Tourist Trophy on the Isle of Man.

These pics are from Honda’s campaign at Sao Paulo in 1954 to prepare itself for its TT debut. It was the 1959 TT race, however, that marked the first entry from a Japanese team in a World GP series race. The racing scene at the time was very European-dominated, but Honda entered four 125cc motorbikes in the event, and won 6th, 7th, 8th and 11th places.

This remarkable achievement was further marked by Honda being awarded the Manufacturer’s Trophy for the event. The rest, we could say, is history. See the Honda MotoGP history site for more photos and the 1954 declaration from then Honda President, Soichiro Honda.

Joey Dunlop: the TT wins DVD to be released

By Alison

Joey Dunlop TT wins I can imagine what you significant other might think of this request for a present, but here you have it: there are plans to release a full DVD pack of Joey Dunlop’s Tourist Trophy wins. After 26 wins, I don’t whether it’s a DVD per win, but Manx firm Duke has raided its TT archival footage for a compilation.

So far 20 years and 24 wins worth of footage has been found, and fans are being called on to help complete the project.

Managing Director Peter Duke has said:

“We have access to the world’s biggest archive of road racing footage, and we have wonderful film of Joey claiming victory on 24 occasions. The race action we have is dramatic, evocative and often highly emotionally-charged.Brought together, this footage is a fitting tribute to an incredible man. However, we would like to make the final DVD as comprehensive as possible, and that’s why we are asking for help from the We still need to track down footage of Joey’s very first TT win in the 1977 Jubilee TT race, when he rode a Yamaha to victory ahead of George Fogarty.

The helmet differs only in design, with the physical characteristics the same as the standard helmet.

The Arai RX-7 Norton costs 590 pounds, nearly 900 euros, and is available in sizes XS to XXL. The helmet is covered by a five year guarantee. See Norton Racing for how to order.

Tourist Trophy footage: Isle of Man at high speed

By Alison

If you’ve got any doubts about what it actually means to ride the Tourist Trophy on the Isle of Man, check out this footage from 2006 and 2007. The tip comes from reader Antosette, and it’s real heart-in-your-mouth riding around what appears to be a normally quiet and laid back location.

Despite that impression mostly from the architecture and landscape, the riding is anything but laid-back; this is serious stuff (apart from the fun relay at the end which gives a laugh).

Historic motorcycle racing in the past: Triumph

By koen

Just imagine stopping to change an exhaust valve on your motorcycle during the course of a race, remounting and riding to win by 2 minutes, 17 seconds after 158 miles racing! It all happened to Jack Marshall riding his single-cylinder Triumph in the Tourist Trophy in 1908 on the St. John’s circuit. The race was held on September 23rd, organised in a two-day event with motorbikes on day one and a car race on day two.

In the picture is the start of the 1908 TT, showing a part of the Triumph Team with Jack Marshall, W.F. Newsome and J. Slaughter.
