New Triumph for Brazil?

By Alison

New_Triumph_for_Brazil

What we in the Western world like to call “emerging” markets are ever more tempting for developed countries’ brands and the making of dedicated products for zones like South East Asia, India and South America. Plenty of examples of European brands developing new products are available, but now it looks like Triumph could dedicate a product to these growing motorcycle markets.

According to Motociclismo.br, Triumph is working on a single-cylinder naked bike which could be a 250 or 350 cc model, with water cooling and four valves. The style would pick up on Triumph’s well known Speed and Street Triple models, but a light and svelte chassis set-up would be created.

While Triumph is building the bike for emerging economies, it could find a limited market in Europe, too, as a kind of single cylinder mini Triumph speed. At this stage it’s only a rumour, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see this come to fruition.

Pic of the day: Triumph at Furka Pass

By Alison

Triumph_Street_Triple_Furka_Pass

We had to share this lovely pic of a Triumph Street Triple R parked at the top of the Furka Pass in Switzerland after a motorcycle tour through the area. The pass has an elevation of 2,436 metres and is part of a three-pass trip that travellers often take. Apparently a steam train runs the pass and it was also used as a location in the James Bond film Goldfinger, but otherwise seeing this photo, we think it’s a great place for a spot of summer motorcycling.

Send your funny, bizarre or surprising pics to us and we’ll post them, with your name. We’d love to share what you guys find in the world of motorcycling! Send to: pics@twowheelsblog.com.

Triumph Street Triple R superbike one-make Parkingo European Series

By Alison

Triumph Street Triple R

Not strictly one of the best bikes for 2010, the Triumph Street Triple R has, however, won “bike of the year” 2009 in more than one country. Its 675 cc engine could have something to do with that, but overall we understand that this is one very fun bike to ride. The Street Triple R now has its own superbike one-make series with the ParkinGo European Series.

The races will take place on Superbike Sundays, between the first and second round of the race and will involve about 24 riders at the following Superbike rounds: Valencia, Assen, Monza, Misano, Brno, Donington, and Nurburgring.

The series has European championship status and the winner will compete at the final round of the 2010 Supersport World Championship on a Triumph Daytona 675 from BE1 Racing. For more information, see the Parkingo European Series website.

This Triumph Street Triple special version has been built by LSL - a specialist German Triumph tuning company. LSL supports the Street Triple Cup and the TL-675 is inspired by their 126 hp racing version of the Street Triple.

The TL-675 is a road model with 115 hp, new fairing, adjustable levers, a GSX-R 750 fork and Ohlins rear suspension. It weighs 190 kg and will cost about 16,000 euros. The colour scheme is inspired by the P-51 Mustang from the Second World War. To see more of LSL tuning and design, check out their website at www.lsl-motorradtechnik.de.

Triumph Street Triple R sexy biker

By Alison

Sexy biker Street Triple R

We’d normally reserve our sexy biker gallery for a Friday, but this has been a long week so we’re bringing it to you early. This is Kitty Lea and some bike in the background that you’re less likely to be interested in. She doesn’t come with the motorcycle, so don’t go rushing out to buy a Street Triple R hoping it’s all part of the package. Happy viewing.

Drag racing on a bike: traffic light GP test

By Alison

Traffic Light GP In a very funny article, the guys from Visor Down take a look at the best bikes for traffic light GP drag racing. The bikes tested out were the Kawasaki ZZR1400, the Honda Fireblade, the Triumph Rocket III, the Suzuki B-King and the Triumph Street Triple.

In what is an usual road test, the bikes were matched to different guys in the testing team, based on experience levels, in the following list:

Steve Venables: the best drag racer in the UK. Proper, proper quick off the lights.
Simon Bowen: Old hand at riding anything, quicker than he looks. And older.
John Hogan: Reasonably experienced, though not as quick as his boots suggest.
Ben Cope: Internet legend who would race the wind if nobody else was about.
Luke Williams: Only a year road-riding, so by far the least experienced of the lot.

You’ll have to read the full article to get the low-down, but in some fun, the Kawasaki ZZR1400 is best suited to “ageing hooligans”, the Honda Fireblade is for “rich weekenders” and the Triumph Rocket III matches “very fat people”. The Suzuki B-King is for “fast blind people” (the absolute daddy at launching due to its straight-line power, apparently), while the Triumph Street Triple is for “the smart rider”.

Read the article on Visordown for the best bikes for launching, and why.

Triumph Street Special

This shot of the Triumph Street Triple is a photo shopped version from Biagio di Caserta to create his own Street Special version with a touch of colour. After the jump, there’s a version in grey and we leave it to you to decide which you prefer. I think the orange does have a certain charm…

Micron silencer for Triumph Street Triple

By Alison

Micron per Triumph Street Triple

For the small but agressive English naked, the Triumph Street Triple has announced the arrival of new silencers from Delta Sport, to increase performance and make the three cylinder range even more sort after.

The Delta Sport silencer is available in titanium with black ceramic detail, or entirely in inox steel. It weighs about 3.2kg which is half the weight of the original exhaust.

In addition to the reduced weight and good look, the silencer increases power by 4.2hp to 11,000 revs and the torque is up 3.5Nm to 9,100 revs.
