Troy Bayliss is another Ducati teaser (w/video)

By Toni M.

Three-time World Superbike champion Troy Bayliss is highly involved in the development of Ducati’s new Superbike, with names like Xtreme, 1199, SuperQuadro or Panigale which are just some of the names that are being bandied about.

Bayliss is the star of this brief video teaser from the Italian manufacturer, about something new that we’ll be seeing a bit of next Wednesday on Ducati’s YouTube channel, which is no doubt a lead up to the EICMA show in November, where the Superbike will get its official debut.

Bayliss describes the new machine on his Facebook page as a ‘red beast,’ so we can’t wait to see what Ducati has in store for us.

More Ducati GP12 testing for Valentino Rossi

By Toni M.

rossi mugello june 2011

After Nicky Hayden on Tuesday, Valentino Rossi got his third day of testing on the Ducati GP12 yesterday at the Mugello and turned 80 laps on the new bike, but the Ducati wasn’t just testing the GP12 and Franco Battaini doing work on both the GP11 and GP12.

Troy Bayliss also spent three days testing the new Ducati Extreme 1200 (sorry, no pics, but Bayliss did say on his Facebook page “today i finish test on new superbike , all i can say is the bike is a beast and she is on the money , get your orders in fast , she will sell hot cakes”) and Aprilia had Alex Hofmann doing work on the RSV4 and these last two were also lapping together and Hofmann tweeted Stoked ! Finished the day with a 51.9 on soft race tires. Low 52’s on race options. Personal best ever to hold off Baylistic by some tenths! which at least gives us a faint idea how the new Ducati Superbike is shaping up.

“It was another positive test,”
said Rossi. “We had a number of things to try, including a new step with the frame that I liked. The general feeling was good. I was already happy with the engine the first time I tried it, and now we’re also making progress with the rest of the bike. Naturally, we’ll have to see when the others try their 2012 bikes, but as far as we’re concerned, for the moment we’re satisfied; our bike is already good. Riding at Mugello is always a pleasure. On top of everything else, the conditions today were perfect, so in addition to the good work we carried out—because I did 80 laps—I enjoyed my time riding. Compliments to the circuit for the new additions; the main grandstand is really nice, and of course I hope to see Mugello filled with fans for the race.”

Troy Bayliss denies comeback move

By Toni M.

troy bayliss

We knew what Troy Bayliss said to Motosprint was really just some wishful thinking by the former three-times World Superbike champion and that it couldn’t have been true and that it was mostly Italian hopeful hype.

Infact Bayliss has denied through his Facebook page that he’ll be making any whatsover comback, “I have said many times I miss racing and winning , and Come backs and come back are different , I will come back for Monza , make some laps on a big Red beast , do some work and PR then I will COME BACK . come back home , ciao TB 21.”

Troy Bayliss says he wants to make a comeback

By Toni M.

troy bayliss

Why does Troy Bayliss keep saying certain things, if he doesn’t really mean them and keep illuding his millions of orphaned Superbike fans?

Last year, the former three times World Superbike champion was at the World Ducati Week at Misano and the big talk of the week was that he seriously wanted to make a comeback to racing, only for him to turn around the next day and say he was staying retired and happy.

Now Bayliss who is 42, and helping develop and test the brand new 2012 Ducati Superbike says he wants back again and misses racing too much.

“I can’t help it, I still need to win,”
says Bayliss in this week’s issue of Motosprint magazine. “I’ve never been so fit, I’m ready to return at any time. I know I can beat anyone ” .

Troy Bayliss: "Valentino in WSBK? I don't think so"

By Toni M.

bayliss motodays

It was a whirlwind tour of Italy’s smaller motorcycle shows for former Superbike rider Troy Bayliss, who did some promo work at the Passione Moto show and this last weekend took part in the Motodays fair in Rome.

Bayliss was literally swamped by his still numerous Italian fans, who haven’t forgotten the three-times World Superbike champion and can’t get enough enough of the legendary Ducati rider.

Speaking from the show on Sunday, Bayliss was asked if he thought Valentino Rossi, who’s confirmed that he’d like to race in WSBK at the end of his MotoGP career, if the 9 times MotoGP champion would actually make the switch.

“I’ve heard that in two years Valentino could finish his career in Superbikes,” said the Aussie. “In the 2013 he’ll be the same age as I was when I started racing in WSBK, and he’s got the credentials , but I don’t think he’ll end up in the series.”

“The duel? Vale is a phenomenon, but I won that duel in the Valencia in 2006, when I returned to MotoGP and won with the Ducati and he unfortunately crashed. For 2011 championship I see Stoner. I think he’s the strongest of the three Honda riders and those bikes are now a cut above the others. “

Troy Bayliss working on the new 2012 Ducati Superbike

By Toni M.

troy bayliss

When Ducati officially pulled out their factory team from World Superbikes there were a lot of moans and groans from Ducatisti, with the doubting Thomases not believing Ducati CEO Gabriele Del Torchio’s who said, “We knew that we were going to face a tough year in World Superbike. The new rules don’t help; someone was allowed to bend them, and our 1198 has reached its ultimate potential. In two years, we shall be ready with our new 1200cc Twin.”

Well the new Superbike is on it’s way, if we are to believe Troy Bayliss, who confirmed that he is involved in the project and which many think we’ll see debut at this year’s EICMA show.

The guys over at Motoblog.it got a chance to interview the three-times World Superbike champion during the weekend’s Passione Moto show in Padova.

MB: Troy, now that you’re not in the World championship what projects are you working on and how do you spend your days?

Troy Bayliss becomes Sidi spokesperson

By Toni M.

Troy Bayliss and Sidi

Three times Superbike World Champion, the now retired Troy Bayliss, can’t sit still and enjoy basking in the sun of Australia’s Gold Coast and taking his kids to school, so besides being Ducati’s image man and help test their superbikes (he’ll be continuing, even if Ducati no longer has a factory team in WSBK), he’s also become Sidi’s new spokesperson and will endorse both the motorcycling and cycling sectors of the brand.

“After motorcycles, cycling is my greatest passion,” explains Bayliss. “I used to race bikes at a good level in the junior field. I’d like to thank the Signori family, who’ve always been quite fond of me, and who have constantly, passionately supported me when I raced on motorcycles. There’s a relationship between us based on friendship and mutual esteem that goes beyond work. With both the Sidi Vortice boots I use on the motorcycle and the Ergo 2 CarbonLite and Genius 6.6 Carbon Liteshoes I’ve tried on my bike, I’ve come to appreciate some common factors: the cutting edge technology applied to the products, the quality of the material that goes into making them, and the passion of the people who produce them.”

Bayliss is also a bike cycling nut (he really should hook up with Ben Spies and Ben Bostrom, another two riders who love to cycle, with Bostrom recently beating Lance Armstrong in the Mellow Johnny’s 6-Hour Mountain Bike Race)

Troy Bayliss Faster than Fabrizio and Haga in Ducati Test

By Toni M.

troy bayliss On Saturday at the WDW Troy Bayliss confirmed that that he wouldn’t come out of retirement because he realized that “when I tested here I found out that things weren’t going that good and we ended up going around in circles. That’s when it hit me and it was hard things like that that I didn’t miss about racing. That completely I changed my mind and I spoke too early.” but the Aussie pensioner concluded the Ducati private test yesterday, riding the development bike and finishing ahead of both Noriyuki Haga and Michel Fabrizio. Bayliss set a best unofficial time of 1′35.6, while Fabrizio lapped in 1′36.0 and Haga in 1′36.4.

All the WSBK Ducati teams were present, including private teams Althea Racing, DFX Corse and Supersonic.

WDW - Nori Haga wins in Ducati Drag Racing Event (w/video)

By Toni M.

The Ducati drag race was the hit of the World Ducati Week with Troy Bayliss, Franco Battaini, Shane Byrne, Carlos Checa, Michel Fabrizio, Noriyuki Haga, Nicky Hayden and Casey Stoner facing off on the the Misano straight in a drag race with Streetfighters.

It was a Desmo-dream and Noriyuki Haga and Nicky Hayden went to the wire with the Japanese Superbike rider crossing the line in 5,703s with Hayden a very close second and Troy Bayliss third. Bayliss also had fun with his burnouts, destroying the Streetfighter’s tires.

Troy Bayliss Will NOT Be Making a Comeback

By Toni M.

troy bayliss It wasn’t a pleasant day at the World Ducati Week at Misano for Troy Bayliss fans.

The three times World Superbike champion, less than a month after saying he had retired to early and was missing racing and wanted to make a comeback, has done an about face and during yesterday’s press conference, announcing that he will not be come out of retirement nor will he wild card at the WSBK round at Misano at the end of June.

Why did Baylisstic decide not to return? According to the Aussie, who tested at the Mugello in the middle of May setting a best time time of 1:51.9 on the Ducati 1198R and has been testing at Misano with Noriyuki Haga and Michel Fabrizio and the other SBK Ducati riders during the WDW, found out sometimes wishing is one thing, but a reality check is another.

“I love riding the bike and I love winning races, but I found out here that it’s not always like that. When I tested here I found out that things weren’t going that good and we ended up going around in circles. That’s when it hit me and it was hard things like that that I didn’t miss about racing. That completely I changed my mind and I spoke too early.

Bayliss concluded with: “I don’t want to come back racing and I don’t want to do any wild cards. I’m retired and I’m happy.”
