James Toseland on SBK and MotoGP

By koen

Some years SBK riders leave the Championship for the MotoGP and some others return to SBK. What will is the difference? Is it harder to race in the MotoGP? James Toseland explains something.

James believes winning doesn’t make a difference. When you want to reach the top and win a SBK race or a MotoGP race, you must fight hard. The two Championships have different riding styles. The bikes are different and the way to overtake in MotoGP is completely different to SBK. James said: ” It’s not easier to try and beat Valentino Rossi or the bikes in MotoGP or Troy Bayliss in Superbikes. When I was in Superbikes we were all specialists in Superbike racing, so it was just as hard to win those races as these.”

Not so many riders have won races both at MotoGP and SBK. Troy Bayliss, Alex Barros, Chris Vermeulen and Makoto Tamada have won both in recent years but the list is limited.

New Superpole format for 2009

By koen

The new Superpole format will be introduced next season and the timing of this spectacular event will be moved to 3pm. The Superpole will change radically, with the 16 fastest riders not riding anymore the one extreme fast lap time.

The new Superpole will be for the first 20 riders (instead ofthe 16 riders today). Three elimination stints of 12 minutes will follow, each with seven minutes in between. After the first stint, the four slowest riders will be eliminated and eight riders after the second stint. The last third stint will start with the eight existing riders to have the final standings.

The final regulations will be established and approved by the SBK, FIM, FGSport and the SBK Team Association.

We think, it’s good news to bring more excitement in the Superpole stint. Also the rider with less experience or less good feeling in only riding one fast lap, will be positive about this new system. What’s your opinion?

SBK with more British riders?

By koen

James Toseland has said he would like more British riders in the SBK. “Carl Fogarty, Neil Hodgson and I won 7 WSB titles in 15 years. Today only Chris Walker is returning to the Championship and it’s mid-season. We have so much British talent and I would like to see more youngsters given a chance and on a more regular basis.”

Riders like Troy Bayliss, Noriyuki Haga, Checa and others are all verging on retirement, according to the Britisch MotoGP rider James Toseland. Could we see some new blood come through?

During a World Superbike event there’s also some time for fun. At Brno a group of racers and the media were invited to take part in a ten pin bowling competition held in a huge shopping complex outside the centre of Brno. Riders against media? No, they played mixed, but where’s my invitation?!
