If you were unlucky enough to miss the third round of the World Superbike Championship at Valencia, we’ve go two video highlights of the races that will tide you over until you find someplace on the Internet to download the races in their entirety, because seeing Leon Haslam dominate in race 1 and Noriyuki Haga make a come back in race 2 is well worth the effort.
Yesterday’s World Superbike race 2 was marred by this horrific crash by Brit rider Simon Andrews who was subbing for injured Chris Vermeulen.
The high-speed crash on the straight left Andrews with a broken his left heel and the top bone in his left foot. He is due to fly back to the UK at the start of the week for further treatment.
Here’s what Simon Andrews had to say: “Race one was ok and in race two I got a good start and was finding decent rhythm. When Tom went passed I was hoping to stay with him and gain some places but the next thing I knew I was hit from behind on the straight and can’t remember much after that. The team are saying I am lucky as from what I’ve been told it looked pretty bad from the TV but my left foot is a bit smashed up and pretty painful right now. I have broken the heel and top bone of my foot and have obviously a few bruises to contend with but overall I’m ok. I’d like to thank the team for the opportunity to ride and how disappointed I am in having to end the weekend this way.“

World Superbike race 2 in Valencia has been red flagged after a horrific accident by Simon Andrews and involving also Vittorio Iannuzzo.
The incident occured on the straight on lap four where Andrews crashed and ended up against the pitlane wall and his Kawasaki, while the Italian rider stopped himself further down the track and falling off his bike.
The doctors from the Clinica Mobile have reported that Andrews has suspected fracture to his right foot, while Iannuzzo has fractured his right hand and has heavy bruising to his chest.
The pitlane will open at 16:15 and aggregrate timing will be used for the re-start and heat 2 will be 20 laps.

Cal Crutchlow took his second-straight suprise Superpole in Valencia besting the more quoted Max Biaggi and Carlos Checa for the pole postion.
The Sterilgarda Yamaha rider putting in a scorching lap of 1’33.615 in the final Superpole 3 session leaving Carlos Checa in second place and unable to better his Superpole 2 lap time.
Max Biaggi will take off from third and after running out of soft tires in Superpole 3, ran race tires putting in an impressive series of runs.
Championship points leader Leon Haslam closed the front row with his fourth spot. Haslam made into Superpole 3 with desperate last lap and for a few minutes the timing screens went on the blink leaving everyone wondering if the Alstare Suzuki rider had made into the top 8.

Homeboy Carlos Checa continued his domination on the Valencia race track during the QP1 session. The Spaniard was again the leader, that saw not only six Ducati’s in the top ten, but three privateer Ducati riders taking the three top spots, with Jakub Smrz on the Pata B&G in second, and Checa’s team mate Shane Byrne in third.
Max Biaggi was fourth after being the first rider to break under the 1.35 mark andwas closely followed by Leon Haslam who was fifth.
Factory Ducati riders Fabrizio and Haga were sixth and seventh respectively, despite a crash by Fabrizio. DFX’s Lorenzo took eighth while Sterilgarda Yamaha’s Cal Crutchlow was ninth and Aprilia’s Leon Camier in 10th.
James Toseland, Troy Corser and Simon Andrews also suffered crashes in this session.

Carlos Checa got off to an excellent start in the first session of free practice at the Ricardo Tormo circuit in Valencia. The Spanish rider on his AltheaDucati hit the top of timesheets with a best lap of 1′35.154 and finishing ahead of Michel Fabrizio who is looking to pick up his performance after the disappointing results in Portiamo.
James Toseland posted the third-fastest time, while Troy Corser was fourth and a little more that six tenths of second from Checa. Portiamo double winner Max Biaggi was fifth and points leader Leon Haslam in sixth.

Chris Vermeulen may be skipping this weekend’s WSBK round in Valencia after his keyhole surgery, but that doesn’t mean he’s become a potato couch waiting to heal.

Echo CRS Honda has confirmed that Sheridan Morais will again sub for regular rider Broc Parkes, who is still out due to his pre-season training accident in this weekend’s WSBK Championship in Valencia
The South African rider already subbed for Parkes in the second round at Portimao finishing 17th in race 1 and DNF’d in race 2. Parkes is expected to return for the Assen round that is scheduled for April 25th.

Team Reitwagen BMW rider Roland Resch will finally return to racing for the third round of this year’s Superbike World Championship at the Ricardo Tormo circuit in Valencia this weekend.
The Austrian rider who broke his collarbone in two places during free practice at Phillip Island, and was substituted by Makoto Tamada for the Portimao round, got back on his BMW S1000RR and did forty laps of the demanding Portimao circuit during last week’s tests to check his fitness and since he suffered no ill effects can rejoin his team for his first race of the season.

MSS Colchester Kawasaki rider Simon Andrews has been officially called in to replace injured Chris Vermeulen in PBM Kawasaki Racing team in this weekend’s WSBK round at Valencia.
Vermeulen recently had keyhole surgery to try to fix the problems afflicting his right knee after his crash during round 1 at Phillip Island and will have to sit out the Valencia race in order to try to be fit for the next round at Assen, on April 25.
The twenty-five year old Evesham rider tested the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R Superbike at Valencia
last weel and knows the machine extremely well.
In last weekend’s BSB Championship at Brands Hatch, Andrews DNF’d in Race 1 and took the 8th spot in Race 2.
Simon Andrews:
“I am excited by the chance of riding for the Kawasaki Racing Team in World Superbike this weekend. It was good of them to give me the chance to test before the race. It went well; we all worked hard and moved forwards. It was also good to have raced last weekend in BSB as I have already had a taste of competition. From a rider’s point of view it is good to work with the people they have in the KRT set-up.”

Max Biaggi with the new Aprilia RSV4 took the provisional pole for round three of the 2009 World Superbike Championship, at Valencia.
Biaggi set the quickest time of the day ten minutes before the end of the session with a time of 1’34″775 and was just over a tenth of a second faster than Ben Spies ,who was in front Xerox Ducati’s Noriyuki Haga by just one-thousandth of a second. The provisional front row was completed by Michel Fabrizio on his Ducati Xerox.
Tom Sykes picked up 5th place despite a crash with his R1 Yamaha. Guandalini Ducati’s Jakub Smrz in sixth while Max Neukirchner took seventh.
