Italy's Davide Biga completes journey around the world

By Adrian

Davide Biga - Giro del Mondo in solitaria

Italian adventurer Davide Biga is about to make it back home after one year spent circumnavigating the world alone with his Yamaha Super Ténéré 1200. The 90,000 km ride required seven sets of tyres and eight oil changes, but from a mechanical point of view it passed off without a hitch, and today the Italian biker will be welcomed back home by family and friends in Mondovì, northern Italy.

During his trip Mr.Biga visited 31 countries in 4 different continents: from Italy he moved to the North Cape in Norway, and from there he went to Moscow, where he then followed the Trans-Siberian Railway to get to Vladivostok. Next stop was Japan, where Biga also paid visit to the Yamaha Motor Company head-quarters in Iwata. Then it was Alaska’s turn, and from there he went all the way down to Chilean Patagonia. A little cruise across the ocean to Senegal’s capital Dakar (surely not a random choice), and from there he crossed the whole Maghreb region to get back to the Mediterranean Sea.

The celebrations for the homecoming hero will be held at the local Yamaha dealership, although all the riders who would like to join him for the very last stint will meet up a few kilometers away - where Mr.Biga will make his last stop - to form a happy parade that will escort him home.

Yamaha Super Ténéré Worldcrosser - Live @ Motor Bike Expo 2012

By Adrian

Yamaha Super Ténéré Worldcrosser 2012

A special version of Yamaha’s brand new Super Tenere Worldcrosser - with a never-seen-before “competition white” color scheme - is currently on display at the 2012 Motor Bike Expo, a motorcycle fair taking place in Verona, Italy. The new graphics are obviously inspired by the manufacturer’s historic white-red-black color scheme, that was recently retrieved from memory for Yamaha’s 50th anniversary celebrations.

The model can be considered a more extreme version of the XT1200Z Super Ténéré, sharing the same 1,199 cc inline twin-cylinder engine with its ’standard’ counterpart, This unit has a compression ratio of 11.0 : 1 and produces an output of 110 hp and 114 Nm of torque at 6,000 rpm. However, what really differentiates the Worldcrosser from the ‘regular’ Super Ténéré are some special parts: carbon side panels, lightweight carbon frame and fork protectors, drive shaft shield and rear brake protector in black anodized aluminum and also an aluminum skid plate. No doubt the Worldcrosser would be up for any sort of off-road adventure.

Here is an official photo gallery of the model with the new livery as well as a few shots taken live at the Yamaha’s stall in Verona by our buddies from Motoblog.it.
